go sober this October

Why Christians? What about other religious people? Christians DO follow Jesus teachings. That post is a bit stereotypical. I am a Christian n I help people. I come on BL n try to help those in need by listening to their problems n talking to them. Most Christian help out - there are many ways of helping just because it's not getting a blanket for someone who's homeless don 't assume that the go to church n do nothing else. It's quite offensive to say the least.

Read it again, there are good and bad everything including Christains, I was saying that I admired the way the salvation army actually got out there and helped people rather than just prayed about it, my mother for example doesnt go to church but does work 4 days a weeks with children with learning. difficulties.

Its my opinion but I believe Jesus's teaching werent to go to church but to go out and help people and spread some goodness.

If I'm a little more accurate I don't see those who just go to church but spend the rest of there time in selfish pursuits are genuine Christians, it takes a lot more than just going to a random building and patting each other on the back.

I've no idea what you do or don't do, I'm not judging you, I try to judge no one. I was brought up as a Christain, my Mother was a Sunday school teacher and I went to a church school but I consider myself athiest but that doesnt mean I have an issue with those of faith, it's just not for me.

^^^ fair point.
Yes I actually agree with that, to be honest. Jesus would want people to help others, as he had done as oppose to go to church n pray. That's admirable of your Msm helping children eith LD. I had a lot of friends with LD as a child. It's nice to see they're getting help n support now compared with the 70s where they were often shunned, put into "special" schools n often ill-treated.

Her sister has acute issues that arose due to oxygen restriction at birth so i grew up with these people.

My point waz more general I believe going out and actively helping those in need without raming religion down them is what true chrstianity is. Turning up at church and condeming others for their failings is not ehat Jesus taught.

To avoid confution i m not suggesting you fall into either catagory. Helping people can be done in many ways. Cristians dont have a monopoly on good works And i do not believe god would judge good people just becuse hey ha ent read a book or been to church...it makes no sense

A ex- friend of mine had lack of oxygen n know has cerebral palsy. She 's had to have over 13 operation n dispite her faults. ( lying, manipulation, deviousness, to name a few) I admire the way she got on with things. There's lots of different degree of CP (went to a youth club for children with disabilities , both sensual, physical, mental as well as children with LD) and there were people with CP in wheelchairs, couldn't, feed themselves, or talk properly. Some of them have died now unfortunately, as they had other complications. And there were a few with CP that you could hardly tell had CP as they appeared to talk n talk normally.

One child there was on crunches, had an operation which went wrong n is now in an electric wheelchair for the rest of his life. Another girl was able-bodeied, went to the dentist, had a reaction n ended up brain-damaged. She's in a wheelchair for the rest of her life n she basically had to learn everything from scratch, also has poor eyesight n difficulty weiting.

Another was able-bodied, was riddled with arthritis n ended up in a wheelchair, died at 18, on the operating table, having a hip operation. I used to play with her n stupidly held a grudge towards her because she preferred another friend, is the reason I hate holding grudges n try to make quickly after an argument.

We don't realise how lucky we are, any of us. Life is a gift n I thank God for it, in my prayers, every single night before I go to sleep. So many people I knew as children are no longer around , as they didn't get the luxury to live into adult life as we have. Some of them struggled every day of their lives with the easiest of tasks that we so often take for granted.

Now back on topic, who's doing this "sober in October" thing????

Evey

I'm catching up with both my brothers, one I haven't seen for 3 years, the other lives in Indonesia. If sober October involves drinking beer until we get told to shut up by my sister in law then probably

I shall participate in spirit, im away for the first week of Oct anyway so it wont be too tempting to stray for 1/4 of it.

Im taking part in this :) mainly because im recovering from serotonin syndrome and drinking isnt the smartest idea although I have had a few drinks since it happened. I suppose this is good motivation for me and raising money for charity in the process is a big bonus. Plus its easier for me to say "im off the booze for charity" than saying "im off the booze because I fucked my brains serotonin system from A, B and C..."

i didnt mean that post in a sarcastic way by the way. just didnt want to post the link because if people search it this thread might pop up on google.
