Giving mushrooms to a close friend

I will be spending the weekend with my best friend during a music festival approaching soon and I am torn at whether or not to give him some mushrooms. I will be bringing some of my own home grown mushies that have been showered in hippy love during the whole grow :)

This friend was the best man at my wedding, we are really close and open with each other and he is one of the smartest people I've ever met. My apprehension lies with him having episodes of blatent paranoia while smoking cannabis. He used to smoke with no problems but one day paranoia started to set in while he would be high, even if he was surrounded by close friends in a controlled environment. I told him I would love him to try 1gram of cubensis tea with me to get a feel for mushrooms.

Does anyone have any similar experiences with cannabis paranoia? My friend is willing to try but is this a recipe for a bad experience?

I get paranoia on weed pretty frequently, but it's not so bad as to ruin the experience. On shrooms I am perfectly fine and may get paranoia if something sets it off, but not randomly. I'm not sure how bad your friend's paranoia is though and how that will relate to a mushroom trip in his case. If he is generally not paranoid when sober though I would say go for it.

I have often gotten paranoia/anxiety from smoking weed, this is pretty common. It does not necessarily mean he will experience this with mushrooms. You can't really predict what will happen in any case, but I wouldn't assume that the trip will be unpleasant because of how he reacts to weed.

In my experience, if marijuana use causes paranoia and other unpleasant mental side effects, it is probably best that that individual no longer use marijuana or go anywhere near psychedelics or stimulants. This may be indicative of an underlying mental health issue. It may not be. If cannabis causes your friend to have a very bad time, it is possible that psychedelics will do the same or worse.

Bring this up with your friend. Find out what could go wrong and explain it to him. Maybe he'd be cool with going to the festival sober and then just drinking a bit? Maybe he'd have enough fun watching your silly ass trip while he stays mostly sober? Talk it over with him. If you two are really great friends he might not even need to trip to have fun at the festival.

If he does want to trip on the shrooms I would be sure to give him a very low dose so he might feel something, just enough to have a fun time, but nothing that could cause any issues. You know, low or threshold doses of psychedelics can be very fun and rewarding at times, and there is less of a chance of things going wrong.

in my experience, cannabis makes me strangely anxious, like a kinda edgy dread feeling, and slightly paranoid, but psychedelics and stimulants are fine for me. its all different.

but obviously the over use of stims will make people paranoid. and physcadelics must be used in the correct environment otherwise they will induce incredible anxiety

I feel as if marijuana, with certain people, is Much more likely to cause intense paranoia and anxiety than mushrooms will.

now I have a friend who never smokes weed for that exact reason (causes paranoia and anxiety) and this person eats mushrooms particulary and psychedelics in general like no other. I've never understood it, but I suppose there are people who just legitimately dont like the way marijuana makes them feel, and while I would also think that this would apply to all other drugs it appearently does not. As long as he is the one who wants to take the mushies Id have no problems giving him a g

Yea weed has a special ability at striking extreme fear into a select group of people

i would say he should be fine to try them. i never freak out with weed, but the idea of tripping gave me extreme anxiety because i thought i may have a psychotic break or something (due to the fact that i strongly suspect i am manic depressive or have profound anxiety at the very least). i soon learned how irrational this fear was, when im tripping i feel a strong sense of being "at home" and there are very few things that could send me into a paranoid state (at least nothing has yet haha). i would say the biggest issue here is the dose. 1g will most likely only cause paranoia and an unwanted body load. i would recommend 2 gs for the first trip. i hope ur friend finds mushrooms as inspirational and valuable as i did!

Thanks for all the responses! I certainly am not going to push anything on him that he doesnt want to do. He is small so maybe 1.5 grams would be good since I've tripped on 2 grams of strong mushies before.

I'm thinking we might drink the tea at the place we are staying earlier in the day so it's more controlled and there are less things that could induce paranoia/anxiety.

I used to smoke weed all the time, I love the stuff. But have found in recent stuff I get much more paranoid on it than originally. I've recently decided that while using psychedelics such as Acid or Shrooms, during the peak smoking it is out of the equation - on the come up/come down no problem, but during the peak I find it doesn't play any strong noticeable stoning effect but more so an increase in visuals and with it increase in paranoia - I have no paranoid generally on psychedelics.
So my opinion, let your friend try them if they feel COMFORTABLE, Shrooms and Weed are two different drugs, two different effects. I find weed - unless compared to a stimulant, is one of the worst drugs out there for paranoia. I have however been smoking weed from an age that is still considered a point of mental development and this could easily be the cause. Have some valium on hand, if your friend does get uncomfortable 10mg can easily sort them out, although 15-30mins may seem like a long time on psychedelics, it's better than a rough 6 hours. If things go far too intense/crazy, also carry some Xanax and feed him 3-4mg and knock him out.

This is a good idea. I definitely get anxious and paranoid on weed, whereas I don't feel the same way on mushrooms. However, I always seem to get the feeling of apocalypse and ruin on mushrooms, which is why I've stopped taking them. I don't know if these two things are connected. :\
