After finally given up cigarettes just over 1 year ago i have now decided to give up my weed for the past year i have been using bongs & pipes as i gave up the fags... i have been smoking weed for about 15 years and was heavy on it.......iv now been stopped 19 days although i find it pretty easy to stop im having weird dreams every night although they are not always nightmares they are pretty mad ones i wake up loads of time through the night and feel shattered in the morning's.....sometime i wake in the middle of the night and feel scared i have to have a quick glance around the bedroom just to put my mind at ease... i dont want to start using sleeping tablets cause i dont want to give up one drugs just to start on another...

At bed times i dread going to sleep its just like the movies nightmare on elm street were they no freddy will come to them in their dreams......same with me i no once i go to sleep im in for a weird night's sleep.

i dont seem to be having another other effects apart from the odd headache...does anyone no how long these dreams are likely to last!!!!

That's strange. I've been off the cigarettes for just under two weeks and with it I've basically been off weed. I've not smoked anywhere near as I used to and the last time I smoked weed was a week ago. I've been getting strange headaches, not conventional ones and I've been having some very vivid dreams and been waking up multiple times during the night also.

Last night was Vietnam then coming home, crying constantly and trying to kill a gigantic green slug with salt. Sounds stupid I know. Luckily they haven't been too bad and I really enjoy the interesting dreams.

I quit nicotine in September, and weed October, the "odd headache" went away, but the dreams are still comin on strong...Some I'm glad I wake up from, cause they 'are' strange...but others are so cool, that when I wake up, I want to go back for another episode,,,the ones I wake up in a panic from, are the ones that I'm smokin a cigarettte in. I noticed the dreams are weirder the later I eat, I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but it seems to be true for me. Good Luck with the quit, and heres wishin ya sweeter dreams...

Aye man, I'm smoking in my dreams most nights, even cigars which I've never been keen on. I was blaming the dreams on lsd but it seems that it's most likely due to cessation of smoking. Makes me look forward to sleep though.

good to see im not the only one going through the weird dream thing....i agree some dreams are great but others are very very strange

Its mostly because THC impairs your ability to remember stages of REM sleep where you dream. Eventually it should even out though, 15 years is a long habit to undo.

!@~

hahaha for sure. when i started slowing down and not smoking as much i would get dreams that were wicked intense. they were always so vivid and wierd

Perfectly normal, happened to me when I quit after nearly a year non-stop smoking, had some of the most fucked up, weird dreams that felt completely real. Being really baked when you go to sleep means you don't go into the final stage of sleep, where dreams happen. Suddenly stopping the weed means that the brain suddenly releases lots of the chemical responsible for making dreams, hence the really vivid dreams. Something like that anyway I'm stoned now no dreams for me tonight lol.

If you havent found much of a solution, stop expecting bad dreams to happen.

Alot of dreaming has to do with your mindset before and what you expect. As an avid lucid dreamer Ive found that quitting weed does bring back more intense dreams. Though I usually don't have bad ones and can get control pretty fast if something bad happens.

and to inso, im pretty sure it isnt a chemical that causes dreams. hah and smoking weed doesnt cause you to not dream, the last stage you are referring to is the REM cycle. When you sleep in order to maintain health your body must have a REM Cycle at the end of sleeping. It is just the weed has an effect on the brain and memory which more times than not causes you to very easily not remember your dreams.

I find the fact that I wake up so often a bit of a treat. It's always at the end of a dream and then I just go back to sleep and prepare for another. It also appears to have made achieving lucidity easier, something that I will test further this weekend.

You said you didn't want to try sleep meds, but Melatonin is a GREAT supplement you can buy OTC, with zero side effects and zero chance of addiction. You can build a tolerance to it with regular use over a few months, but it's not like you withdraw if you don't take it, you might just find it hard to go to sleep.

Melatonin is very closely related to Seratonin, the chemical in your brain that makes you feel sleepy. They come in 3mg pills, and one or two of these should do the trick. They say they only help you fall asleep and thats it, but when I take them I usually don't have any dreams, but I wake up feeling really well rested, almost like it gives you an illusion you are sleeping for a really long time, even if you only got 8.

weed is like having clouds over your dream so that's why you don't remember it

now when you quit cold turkey, dreams come back and more intense
it should go away in a few weeks/months with balanced diet/sleep/exercise

buy some Valerian Capsules...it's a natural sedative, they don't fuck you up at all but I find if I take 7-8 of em I'll usually fall asleep in at the most an hour-hour n' a half. The bottle says take 2 but I found no help at those doses. But yeah i notice I almost always feel tired to a certain degree from the moment I wake up but after a night with Valerian I feel really well rested in the morning and much more awake throughout the rest of the day.

weird i can go weeks without smoking weed and i'm a chronic toker. The only side effects i get is mild irritability and increased headaches (but that runs in my family. weed keeps headaches from comin)

Definitely get them.

On the first day (or two) I get "nightmares" - full on ghosts, monsters etc (i'm in my 40's dammit). I generally wake up in a cold sweat from these and it's always the first set of REM sleep of the night (ie. right on midnight).

As time progresses, the flavour of the dreams change and I usually start dreaming about taking drugs.

Just enjoy the weirdness of them I say. I couldn't tell you how long they'll last as I've only managed to go 3 or 4 weeks...

i have more intense dreams when i quit but not to the point that i wake up in the middle of the night. infact i like them the realer the better i hate smoking a joint a few hours before i go to sleep that nights sleep is like an empty blackness

back when i started smoking i had a better time falling asleep on weed and closed eyed visuals they just wore away over time :\

had an absolute corker the other night:

people were being murdered around me. Then in a house next to my old primary school I asked into the ether: "Is that you Kate?" (my ex girlfriend - like 12 yrs ago). And a ghost shook my hand...

Woke up a little rattled...

Thankfully none last night.

I've also found a couple of Nurofen Plus b4 bed helps with a dreamless sleep... It's not, however, something I like to do often.
