and although, like the aforementioned drugs, it may have tremendous effect on some peoples lives (exemplified by your highly intriguing stories), it's certainly not comparable to the direct influence the strong psychedelic drugs have.

Whereas I am pointing out (for the final time coz I cant be arsed with backwards and forwardness saying the same thing each time) that a whole culture - in the most absolute terms of the word culture - has been overwhelmingly influenced by coca to the point of museums, art, dance and a whole tradition of fighting imperialist politics. How much more influence on a people do you want?

Hi all I'm a newb poster on this thread just me and a 1/4 of indica heavy weed TV and munchies (I no longer do class A's nor drink due to my addictive tendencies) IM 36 FFS I SHOULD BE PARTYING TILL THE SMALL HOURS CHATTING RANDOM SHITE TO STRANGERS SHOULDNT I ????

No not at all. Though I am opposed to psychedelic use, as I like to develop and find progression inwardly, not externally or artificially - and feel it builds a stronger mind to do so in this way (totally different argument, no-one start please because it's a highly, highly contentious issue whether psych's help or hinder thought progression and one that's incredibly difficult to prove or precisely determine) in this instance, when I said the other drugs change your thought process and understanding, I was literally stating exactly what they do - for the better or the worse - I was not being subjective.

The difference is the role of the drug. A weak stimulant like caffeine, or coca leaves, or ginseng, may assist physical and mental accomplishments. Just a single trip on mushrooms however, may change the way you perceive life and your understanding forever more. The direct psycho-active effect is completely different in it's nature and effect - and that severity, that strength, gives a feasible reason as to why someone (the pope) could perceive them to be more dangerous.

And I am offering, perhaps in terms that are different to what you mean but valid, more than valid, nonetheless, that coca leaves have influenced a culture that changes the way people act and perceive their daily lives through

As with qat leaves in the Yemen, the imbibing of them involves much more than the sum of its apparent parts. When you chew coca in Peru, you are chewing thousands of years of cultural history.

The changes in your thought process can change drastically from one trip. The effects of coca leaves have on a culture is over a very long period of time. It's completely different cup of tea (no pun intended) you can see why one could be considered dangerous to your mental health, but not the other.
