It was HMCS after me for fines for non payment of tv licence. dunno if they were making empty threats about getting the proper police to lock me up for the night but I didn't fancy risking it. I've never had a TV license, nor do I intend to ever buy one. Only have the Virgin box because it's cheaper for me to have the broadband phone and tv than just the broadband. My house is set back from the road and you can't gain access to the drive though. So, hardly going to catch me out watching EastEnders!

If your address does not have a license they just assume you should but don't have one, detector vans are not used......if they ever actually were:sus:

Oh I get the letters all the time telling me they are sending some chap round to check my house. A, good luck getting to the front door. B, Good luck getting in.

Even if s/he manages to scale the fence and I answer the door, I don't legally have to allow them access to my property.

Careful they don't go for a search warrant, I've heard them obtaining them by shady means
 
I was unlucky enough to get caught out by the TV detector bloke in the early 90's.
I stupidly admitted I didn't have a licence but told him I would buy one at the end of the week when I got paid, which I did do.
Heard nothing for a few months then got a letter saying I was being taken to court for not having a licence.
I didn't attend the court on the day and I ended up with a fine of around £300 - £400 if I recall correctly.
Have made sure I've always had a licence since then.

Why should I buy a license for something I don't use? As I said, I've only got it because it's cheaper to get my services as a package rather than an individual item.

The Virgin box isn't even setup, or installed. I don't think it was even setup when the guy came as I didn't have a TV. Not sure if you can set it up without a TV?
 
Oi, shopper check, I'm with virgin and don't have a tv package. how much you paying?

I pay £38 for my BB and phone line. I only have a phone line cos they gave me it for free when I told them I wanted to cancel it. I've never fallen for their bulshite sales patter about it all being cheaper with tv n stuff.

I've got the fastest BB they do ... think it's 'unlimited' 120mb or summat.

All you have to do is go to the tv licence web'site and declare that you don't need one. Easy.

I employ two types of debt collector, the write letters telling you you've fucked your credit rating one and the other ones who dangle you above an oil drum full of snakes. Guess which one is more effective?
 
I had to pay £59 a month for 120mb internet, or £60 for the phoneline plus L+ (or whatever it's called) TV package.

For an extra quid, the phone ain't bad. Came with the 1TB Tivo box too. (I've put the hard drive in an external caddy!) Free storage!
 
Talking that much shite must really even grate on your own nerves sometimes, OTW.
