Awake at 6am drinking weak GBL and thinking I need more sleep. This is what I get for taking a 4 hour nap when I got home from work yesterday I guess.

being awake this early is fucked up, I went back to bed for a bit despite the coffee, feel slightly less rough now.
 
ugh, work. boring chore like work to do today.

going back to bed after waking up at 5am and having a coffee and checking some emails / reading the news etc. turns out to be a good idea, hour or so enjoying total silence and mental space to breathe (apart from occasional crows) and thinking positive thoughts about what I have to do today, seems a bit healthier than just trying to stay awake with coffee and feeling raw as fuck for the rest of the day.

getting woken up abruptly by an alarm or something is fucking horrible, I'm not doing it anymore.

The birds tend to go quite after a good 2 or 3 hours after dawn. Especially the loud buggers.

I noticed a few years ago that my natural time of waking up without putting an alarm on, was bang on 7am (6am in summer). I've always found this a bit strange, but stumbled on an article about natural sleepcycles (they go in 4 or 5 hr stretches from what I remember). Anyway, if you try to find out what your own cycle is, you can work with it to make the most of it.

For instance if I ever woke up at 7am, but had gone to bed late and had only gotten 4 or 5 hrs of sleep, then forcing myself back to sleep for an hr, just because I didn't need to be up until 8am, was generally making me feel more sleepy and tired than when I woke at 7am. Apparently pushing yourself back to sleep past your sleep window, unless you take the whole of the next natural window as sleep too, doesn't make you feel any better and isn't really necessarily productive. It's a known thing.

Weird. wil look for the article when I'm back from this mornings's puppy class.
