i sort of see your point but dont really agree. Should a nurse refuse compassion to someone dying of lung cancer because they have smoked all their lives ? Ok thats taking the argument to the very extreme, but medical staff should treat their patients with dignity whether their patients ailments are self inflicted or not. It is not for them to judge people. They do not know the reasons why the patient is in that state. Im an idealist. I know the real world doesnt work like that. Druggies and drunks get treated like shit.
They get no sympathy if they are still smoking during treatment. The saddest thing I saw was a couple of weeks ago was a guy smoking a dart while hooked up to his chemo bag. Seriously if you want any sort of fighting chance then you should stop smoking.
