and for those au fait with eggs; can you always smell bad eggs? last time i was making runny eggs for soldiers - yes im 28 - i had the worst bout of food posining in my life, was up vomiting all that night and felt like id been hit by a truck for a couple days. but everyone i speak to say you know when eggs are bad

I usually can.. there's also that thing you can do by putting them in water and seeing how they sit - if they lie flat they're fresh, if they sit on one end they're a bit old and if they float then don't eat them!
