I thought they weren't allowed to do that? Did they not get taken to court over it and were told to pack it in?

Google are evil, they've got far too much control online as it is and they're only going to get more of it.

It's not just google chrome. firefox does it too. I was looking at various products on the holland and barrett website at a coupla things I wanted, and when I opened another tab to my homepage (the Guardian website) .. those exact 3 products were being advertised to me on their site.

Clear all your private data daily and it shouldn't happen. Isn't it just affiliate/partner advertising reading and using (via flash or java or whatever) the info stored from cookies caused from what you've browsed?

jancrow/knockando will probably know the exact pattern/link/process or whatever

I just crushed a wee spider running over my desk, second one in as many days. I'm normally not bothered about wee spiders, the big ones like Felix's freak me out though, and as I think that one's sister is dotting about my house laying eggs, and I'm guessing these wee ones are it's spawn. I'm exercising a zero tolerance policy, on the theory that they're going to be big cunts in a few months time. I'm even going to hoover the place, so great is my animosity. Layers of protective dust will be peeled off the skirting board.

I don't mind the ones like marmz posted there, in the garden, on hedges, minding their own business, tending their web, they're cool, I can even have them crawling on me without any bother. It's the big intruders that do my nut in. I'm sitting watching the telly or more likely posting on BL and a thing the size of a child's hand scurries over the wall? Get to fuck! Go and live in the jungle you evil many-legged sac of ooze.

I noticed it last week when I'd been browsing at stuff on Holland and Barrett as well, everything I had looked at was being advertised on the other sites. How does it work though, surely that means Google would have to be in cahoots with all these websites too as the websites would have their own adverts they wanted to show.

It's not just Google either, if I look at something online or talk about it on a forum I often find that later that day all the Facebook ads are about that topic even though I've not mentioned it on Facebook. They got into trouble as well for tracking you once you'd left their website, doesn't seem like they've stopped though.

The websites can just choose to have targeted ads based on the viewers or based on key words on their own site. Is a bit stupid really, I remember back when meph was legal though there were ads for meph selling websites popping up on local newspaper websites in articles that were demonising meph.

Yeah I saw that too Mugz, lots of Google Adword adverts for meph. That's not the type of adverts I'm seeing now though, it's proper banner adverts that look like they are part of the website I am visiting except tailored to whatever I've been looking at.

It's got fuck all to do with google as far as i can tell ... it's about your cookies being tracked by affiliates of the sites youre browsing ... I *think* althou i may be wrong. I've got the little google toolbar in my firefox, so it could be connected to that i suppose ... that's the only link to google I can think of in terms of my own browsing. But it must be tracking everylink I use, incl my bookmarks, which doesn;t sound right

where's jancrow when ya need im?

I have a solution to your browsing misery.

But I have just shoved 50mg MXE up my brown ring and the results are unexpectedly strong.

So you will have to wait! :)

From what I'd read on internet geek forums Google was at it, apparently Chrome + using Google as a search engine meant they would follow you about the internet forcing adverts on you.

yes, that's probably true, but I don't use chrome, and it also happens to me too. generally not when I browse in stealth private mode tho, or when I make sure my cookies and reg have been properly cleared, with cc cleaner ... which I used to try and do everyday. only takes a minute or two.

Why does everyone not use Firefox with AdBlock Plus? I ask this question all the time, explain it to people when I'm using their computer etc yet still everyone seems to moan about adverts. They can target all the adverts they like at me, I can't see them. It even blocks those adverts that youtube make you watch before a video, I didn't even know they existed until I was on someone else's computer.

I use ad block plus and no script with firefox. occasionally one or the other gets turned off temporarily if it's fcking with my browsing or a particular website

[edit]

evening brimz. how's tricks since you got discharged?

In relation to Internet watching you;

Computer tech was telling us a story of a plugin he has that shows you all the sorts of Adsense type things and all the tracking cookies and third-party tracking cookies on the web page you are viewing.
He went onto the amazon main page and there was something ridiculous like 32 of them. That was just the main page.

I don't think this posted earlier due to my sketchy Sky broadband (cunts). Bit off topic now but meh - The spiders in my house keep it calm, they hide about. I never see any of those big bad boy things that cunts are posting on here all the time. Just the odd wee guy, causing no bother, capturing the flies, putting his shift in.
