I've been to the US quite a few times and it's hell getting in and they treat you like shit, I'd not risk it if I'd picked up a drug conviction.

I'd be surprised if they couldn't check these days, I've been stopped every time I've gone in, I think 6 times and the same the one time I went to Canada, might be just me though:sus:

Mind you I ain't got form like MSB:)

What do you mean you've been stopped? Stopped and turned back? Or stopped and ushered through like a normal? ;)

No stopped and grilled about where I was going, what I was doing, when I was going back home etc etc. I have no idea what they were able to check and I don't have any convictions or cautions. I got in every time but it was not a pleasant experience.

Fuk if i can get in ......

i dunno i'ts a lottery don't declare shit you would be daft to give them any reason

i suppose if you have family then it's easier ?

I'm visiting my sister, they asked me about her immigrant status at border control. I just told them the truth, which was mostly "I don't know". I wonder if they were trying to catch her out. The guy spent more time asking about her than asking about me.

atm23, I'm still not sure what you mean by stopped! Everyone is stopped at border control, has their fingerprints and a photo taken, and asked questions about their stay. Were you pulled aside by scary people and given the third degree? If not, you got normal treatment for a normal law-abiding white adult.

Aye, that's standard going into the US. Only time I've been there I was 16, pished, carrying 1000 fags & 2L of spirits lol. They asked me loads of questions about where I was staying, who with, why I was there etc "Disneyland, obviously!"

I have family in CA. but i haven't been to visit since 9/11 . I would imagine things have tightened up . I would like to think that i would still get in mind .

It was a few years ago, I think think the last time was about 5 years ago. I always seem to get more attention than other travellers. You only remember the scary stuff but I've had all my stuff taken out and cross questioned at least 3 times, never had my photo or prints taken though? I've been into Israel and Jordan (no not Katy;)) and neither were as bad.

I'm pretty sure they can only get you if you're a dope and put down the drug convictions, otherwise they have no idea unless it's serious. But if you say no and then need to get a proper visa in the future then you're absolutely fucked because you've committed fraud. I've read a few stories of people being held in detention centers in Arizona for 1-2 months. I've also read on travelling forums about people refused entry for putting down cautions from when they were 14. Another one where someone was denied entry on a £5000 trip to Alaska because he'd stolen a traffic blinker light in the 80s. He'd been in loads of times before but they'd updated their systems or something apparently :?
