Gibberings CVI: Check Out My Subaru

What worries me the most is the lack of female presents / voice. :(

I've seen you express this sentiment before and I can't help but say I don't agree at all. There are a lot of female regulars on here if you consider a) there are less female drug users (adult men have used ecstasy at 3x the rate of women for instance), b) female drug users use drugs less, and c) men use forums more. The three things combined mean that there should barely be any women on here, but there are quite a few. I think the forum broadly relates to drug use in society rather than there being women who want to interact with the forum but won't because of the young men. All in all I don't see where the worry permeates from. Unless of course it's a worry that women in society aren't consuming enough drugs :?

For an internet community that is not based around things specifically related to women, bluelight has a pretty high percentage of female members.

you seem to have statistics for everything MSB lol.

I just thought I should check that the whole country followed the trend i've noticed in various 'underground' style clubs in Leeds. They are total sausage fests. Brodeos if you will. I don't know why women aren't as interested in using recreational drugs, i'm just glad i'm married to one who is =D

I trust you're taking into account the massive male / female disparity when it comes to forum membership / participation.

I'd say that's true of BL perhaps, but EADD? Don't think so. We have some knowledgeable and vocal female posters but an awful lot of it still has an air of sweaty-palmed, lecherous, boisterous, obnoxious fellas.

With myself admittedly contributing to that vibe a lot of the time, albeit with a rare finesse and panache utterly beyond the reach of your average would-be brute. Honest.

re fishing and women MM, my dad took my mum over to Denmark in his seiner when she was pregnant with me and he was incredibly successful with no major accidents or probs out there. I think the whole no women on board/bad luck thing is probably based around the perception of men thinking women are more likely to be (or need to be) brought home mid trip for whatever reason (breaking a finger nail probably ;) ), thereby losing earnings etc .. nothing worse than having to leave the job and come back for unnecessary reasons etc .. it can equal financial ruin in some cases. it's bad enough coming in for emergence boat repairs

it's horseshit anyway, as you know. I can say for near certainty that all the skippers I've known have definitely not had problems with women on their boats when they're in shore ... that's obviously encouraged most of the time ;p

Oh, don't get me wrong. There's nowt wrong with a bit (or a lot) of lechery - it's healthy and natural, besides which, the BL wymyn are probably worse once they get going.

It's just the more sincere / aggressive casual sexism and the forced laddish boisterousness that sometimes takes over which I think could put off casual observers. When everybody knows most of the protagonists are actually shy boys who love their mothers and would never act like that when they're actually around women.

Probably even buy them stuff too, the fucking jessies.

Its a ridiculous rule and I'd let any woman on my boat if I had one...

If she turned out to be "lame", I wouldn't take her out again...there've been a few male friends who haven't hacked it, or have just spent the whole time moaning, vomming etc....we don't come back into port for them, too far, they just have to put up with it and they don't come out again.

If I noticed that having a woman on board did affect the catches in any way, i would of course have to invoke the old wives' tale.

But it's all in the air as I'm unlikely to be able to justify buying a boat of my own. Missis wouldn't have it :D

My mum was one of the first female stewardess on the Ulster Prince Liverpool to Belfast ferry back in the day. The crews superstition meant she wasn't exactly made welcome for the first few years but I think her mini skirt and false eyelashes won them round eventually.
