Gibberings CLXXXIX - Squirrel Nut Zippers, the Albert Hall and going cookerless

I've generally been of the impression that more or less any and all foodstuffs (and indeed drinkies) will affect the texture, scent and taste of both male and female secretions. Put a shitload of garlic in a ladyfriend's dinner and none in your own and tell me you can't taste it later on ;)

qft

most strong scented foodstuffs trickle down into our secretions....

Keep your experiments to yourself. EWWWWWW

The lady looks like she just came out of a world of warcraft with a shitty gear on. SHE NEEDS A FUCKING WAND.

Unless I am mistaken that particular female is in American Horror Story. Anyway, getting back to the point she's clearly a gnome twink... just need to get her a full set of Magister's Regalia as well as that wand & she'd be golden.

^ Hmm... not entirely sure how the BLUA stands on mocking the afflicted but - on a personal level - it's in seriously poor taste :\

"EWWWWWWWWW"? But you're usually so damnably sweet, m'dear...

Not if you make me taste like Garlic. Dats just weird boy! You ain't right in the head!!!

the blua is quite clear:

Specifically, you may not...post or upload any content that victimizes, harasses, degrades, or intimidates an individual or group of individuals on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or any other reason;

but sometimes, it's better to just leave crap like that to linger like the bad fart that it is so people can turn their noses up at it.

I suspected as much, Ali.

(loungeposts aside though presumably? ;))

And I also agree with your latter point. I'm not big on censorship as I have a firm belief in the basic decency of human nature and the decency thereof when taken over the wider scale.

(loungeposts aside for obvious reasons ;))

I think they look adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You old grumpy cats! Never played world of warcraft obviously :p gnomes are my favs, just saying they could easily do cosplaying =D and that's flattering.

Have a good night!

Exactly, why is comparing someone to a WoW character demeaning... I wish I was (looked like) a Night Elf... ;)

No, those days are behind me... happy to be human again.

In other news I think it's nearly time to hit the hay, god knows I need a good rest.

Why is it demeaning? For the same reason dwarf-tossing and dwarf-bowling are demeaning. It's picking out a specific trait which a person cannot do anything about and patronising and/or mocking them for it cos - you know - "they're so funny". Do you call folk with cerebal palsy "spazzers" and "hilariously wobbly"? If not why are you calling people with various forms of dwarfism "gnomes" and pronoucing them "adorable"? :\

Christ, it's getting too serious in here... I fully appreciate your point. Just a bit of WoW nerdyness coming out that's all.

At what point does it become acceptable to joke (or not as the case may well be) about these things. If it's light-hearted then I see no problem although as I said, where to draw the line is a slight grey area.

^ Post was not removed or edited so where is this censorship you speak of? :?

And, as pointed out, such posts contravene the BLUA so are technically against the rules no matter what and thus fair game to - at the very least - have their ickiness highlighted to remind folk they could just as easily have been officially warned or infracted for it.

The line - for me - is somewhere around the "Would you say this to the person's face?" mark.

Along with the "Is this comment incredibly crass and offensive?" point.

It's difficult with humour cause I try to joke n laugh with people n it gets taken the wrong way. People are just way too serious these days in my opinion. A good sense of humour makes awful worrisome things seem like light-hearted advertures :)

I bet some dwarves would laugh at comments like that, but then again... as you rightly say would I say anything to their face. Of course not.

Maybe making racist or demeaning jokes is a terrible thing to do but I do it anyway on rare occasions because I don't have any malice behind the comments. Does that mean I operate double-standards? I don't know but it's true. Crass but I don't think it makes me morally bankrupt.

I feel in an ideal world racism or whatever should be behind us to the point where we can accept a joke for what it is. Something that isn't serious. Yet at the same time there will always be a minority for whom they do have cruel intent behind these things & those for whom it is about that take offence.

Is this saying something about society these days that many people of my generation are desensitised to these things enough that we think it is acceptable in certain circles?

Me mate had a wicked sense of humour. No one would get her n she'd be misunderstood but she was a lovely person (once) she'd make anything serious sound funny n we'd be the phone laughing at the most stupid stuff. She wasn't one to make racist jokes or owt like that though.

Once again, the issue is that this is people being patronised and mocked for being disabled and they are not here to "join in". As such it is abuse pure and simple. We don't call black folk coons these days either. Just cos something has historically been "acceptable" (because the group being abused did not have enough of a say in the matter to have a say in the matter at all) doesn't mean it will remain "acceptable" in more enlightened times. We stopped burning old women at the stake cos they liked herb tea too. Times change and what was once deemed entirely acceptable can sometimes reveal itself to be utterly abhorrent in hindsight.

Try it this way... if you had a child with dwarfism would you find it quite so funny when folk called them "an adorable little gnome"? It's really pretty fukkin simple, people. Or maybe some of you people are just fukkin simple :\
