Really?

Peer reviewed academic study please.

Or are we, as I suspect, like most other people in this thread just taking their own opinion and presenting it as fact?

Fucking hell this place has really gone downhill in some respects.

True. How are you doing anyway ?

*straightens flatcap, mumbles something about all this being fields, and shuffles off hobbling on walking stick

LoL :D

I don't know anything about OCD I'm just trying not to offend anyone. And I know that people with psychological disorders are more susceptible to addiction, generally speaking.

Right wait the now and I'll go get my opinions peer reviewed so that they meet Owen's criteria. Fucking hell.

I think you really need to take a look at the place you are having this conversation. No-one here is stating their opinion as fact. Everyone is stating their opinion. Just pretend that every post has "imo" after it, eh?

But, to be fair. Maybe addictive personalities do exist. But 99.99% of people who say "I have an addictive personality" don't (& this maybe detracts from the real cases - If everyone who liked a pint claimed to be an alcoholic you would probably be sceptical of someone saying they were an alcoholic). They just have a normal personality that likes to do the things it likes. I've never met someone who said "Oh, I don't want that Mars Bar. I have an addictive personality" then ate the Mars Bar and went fucking bonkers, straight down the shop with a credit card to buy all the Mars Bars that exist, never surfacing again until they've ate every Mars Bar they possibly could.

& when I say people I know like to sniff all the drugs, drink all the booze etc. That's when they're out, on a Saturday, and they go home on the Sunday. Some addictive personality, if you're back at work on Monday having put your "addiction" in a drawer for the next 5 days.

"When I enjoy something, I like to do it" would be a much more accurate statement than "I have an addictive personality" for the most part.

Yeah that 99.9% are the people I was talking about. Everyone likes drugs.

The underlying factor of OCD is anxiety. Yes it compuksions n obsessions but in a COMPLETELY different way to addictive behaviour. The acts, someone with OCD performs are not enjoyed - they're done as a way to stop the intrusive thoughts and all this is based on anxiety.

Addictive behaviour is when a person initially
Enjoys the thing but feels that they are unable to live without it n has to continue doing, in order to function.

So i suppose they have similarities in terms of thoughts n " having to" but very much different in terms of underlying factors.

Exactly the point I'm making.

Peer-reviewed academic papers = of some value in discussing a scientific subject and trying to present something as being fact
Your opinion = of no more value than anyone elses, you're just making a stab in the dark until you back it up with some sort of evidence

No offence, but you, your narrow experience of other humans and your mars bar related theorising aint worth the bandwidth it's occupying. Not a personal attack on you here, same could be said for most people who have chipped in on the subject.

Ah, but the thing is, we live in a culture where doing almost anything for the enjoyment of it is frowned upon, yet it's legitimate to do certain things if you have something wrong with you. Therefore, we rationalise and legitimise our decisions by painting them as the consequences of illness. When actually, the only thing wrong with most people is that they think they have something wrong with themselves.

Why are we talking about it then? Why do we ever discuss anything beyond what we're having for tea and what the weather is like?

Let's just discuss Eastenders. None of us are experts. None of us have peer reviewed academic papers on the subject. Obviously can't talk about it then.

So, what's Phil Mitchell been up to?

Very valid point.

That's one way of looking at it.

Well, I doubt anyone will be presenting anything as definitive scientific fact whilst talking about Eastenders. Were they to do so in such an unrefined manner I would call bullshit in a similar manner though.

Why are we talking about it? Well, unfortunately opinions are like arseholes, everyone's got one. Whether it has any grounding in evidence/fact or not.

Is it just this one subject we're not supposed to talk about unless we're experts, or are you going to cut about the site shutting down all non expert opinions on all topics?

Well, I doubt anyone will be presenting anything as definitive scientific fact whilst talking about Eastenders.

What? That's why I was saying lets just talk about Eastenders then. We obviously aren't allowed to talk about anything beyond that without spending a few years becoming an expert in the field. So, Phil Mitchell then?

I can't be continuing as I'm doing - spending money on drink, clothes whatever, when I owe the bank. £4,000. And as long as I've those cards I won't stop. I've tried.

Besides it's embarrassing having to delete my posts each day.

I'll drink the rest tonight (as I've been brought up not to waste). And it's going to be hard watching you all get drunk / use each day but others have - and succeeded. I may pop to TDS more n help people again. Loved doing that before.

And reducing suboxone. This is going to be somewhat interesting - trying to stop three addictions ar once but I can do it.

Evey

Why don't you spend your money on your child, and create happy memories together, instead of spending hour upon hour on Bluelight, drinking JD, causing nothing but drama for everyone.

I didn't say you needed to be an expert. I merely suggested that if someone is going to have a definitive opinion on a scientific matter it should probably be based on some grounding in fact, rather than being picked out of thin air. Otherwise it's just pubtalk really.

http://scholar.google.co.uk/

There you go for future reference. If what you believe has any scientific grounding it will be easy enough to provide supporting evidence for it using that tool should someone challenge you on it.
