How is someone on benefits ever going to be able to pay back thousands of pounds of debt:? Im talking about the broader issue, and not you personally Evey. Should the credit card companies even be lending large amounts to people with a very low income on ESA benefits and child support? Irresponsible lending imo. :sus:

With interest rates at 28% or something, someone several grand in debt is gonna struggle just to pay the interest on the debt. They may as well fuck it altogether and go on a huge spending spree and declare themselves bankrupt and write off the debt. (Can a person rather than a business do this?) One of my friends from Uni was £1,000 overdrawn, a lot of money at that time, they just wrote off his debt after some time, as it didnt look like he would ever pay it back, it destroyed his credit rating, but that didnt affect him. It just meant he could only bank with Halifax from then on. 8)

Sober-ish sensible one tonight, feeling like a proper wrongun. managed 3 hours sleep earlier which has helped a lot though. im close to throwing this cider i've got in the bin, will be the first time i've ever thrown booze out, theres something odd about this shit

A person can declare themselves bankrupt and basically fuck off all their debt. It just means they'll never get credit. No credit card, overdraft, mortgage, car loan or anything that requires a credit check (renting a flat for example). It's not quite as simple as that, but aye they can do it.

Sober one for me an all. I've just gave my frosty cold bottle of Wine to my flatmate. Don't want to risk another barf.
