Gibberings CLXX: Cocks will get blocked.

There is nothing better than being deemed 'the man', I ruled with the iron fist and I didn't care who hated me for it. I was the Maggie Thatcher of BDD.*

*I may be making that up I actually have no idea

How long did you mod BDD ? I know I'm disliked for my modding of PR - meh ! If I'm doing it wrong tell me :)

Also failing to see the point, want to take over from me?

Don't know what I'm supposed to do here. If you take away the posts with senseless childlike bickering in, you get accused to over censorship. If you leave them in then the mods aren't doing their job properly.

Perhaps if the forum members actually made conversation about interesting, relevant topics, rather than constantly dragging up who supposedly said what about who God knows how many months ago, then it wouldn't feel like the forum was being so badly moderated.

As it stands it's hardly surprising none of us want to post here much at the moment.

Pretty much. EADD was a lot more lax until recently and policed itself, and we had a lot more people posting. Then this weird drama started up and if we UA posts people call conspiracy, if we infract people, we get abuse, we can't be everywhere at once and now whereas once someone would post something out of line and get called out by the other members, now it seems to be outright abuse half the time. It's been a shit year for the forum, and we're just constantly going over old ground. Same people, same arguments.

Whatever is done is done, as shit as that is. Pointless dwelling and fighting over the same stuff every other week.

This weird drama thing has really alienated a lot of people - I will often fancy a chat look at the last person and simply avoid. Can we not start a new ?

Not to disparage knock in any way, but I think his attempts to make the place seem more 'democratic' and less 'censorious' ended up making it more difficult for the staff, as every decision began to get questioned by those who mistakenly believed that they had some degree of influence on the rules.

The line between democracy and ochlocracy is a thin one indeed, and whilst BL will never be a democracy, EADD can easily become a de facto ochlocracy, with unnecessary drama at every turn.

When I joined, if you posted something that crossed the line, your post disappeared. Nobody cried. All was well.

Nowadays, people just don't quit.

I did consider renaming this thread to bickerings and starting a new gibberings thread last night.

That's a pretty good point to be honest. He wanted to give members more input and so do I to a degree but yeah I'd be happy if posts disappeared, nobody held grudges over it for months and we just let stuff go. There's zero benefit to be had by all of this.

Edit @ Josh: was considering something similar myself. There's a lot of nasty shit in this thread, starting a new one and letting it run and just doing our job of 'UA, warn/infract if necessary'. Just focus on the 'Keep your personal drama to PM' rule.

I'd imagine the lives of members that were cut short is what scared most people off here. The sadness and unhappiness behind those situations we will never really know. I like to think that some of the people that stopped posting all the time are in a better place now than they were previously. Also their isn't much of a friendly atmosphere on here at times.

I'd like to think that too... also compared to other forums this place has a very friendly atmosphere

Indeed.

So what to do, as a mod, is not remove the he said/she said posts but ban the cunts who repeatedly do it.

I don't even use drugs anymore bar the odd toke when drinking and I use this place. It's funny really. I don't even smoke cigarettes anymore. BL doesn't feel as annoying of a bad habit now that I'm on the straight and narrow. Addiction it's a hell of a drug !

It's kind of a bit wrong to judge Knock's moderating and decisions when he's no longer here to defend them, that's kind of not right somehow.

He was only thinking of EADD and how to improve things / get members involves - and is no longer here - isn't very appropriate to criticise decisions he made. Why bring him into this discussion?

Evey

We're not judging, just saying how his ideas are hard to implement without him here because he was intensely dedicated to them and he was online a lot.

Didn't I start my post with "not to disparage knock", Evey? :)

I've no doubt he had the best of intentions at all times, but he was not above making mistakes, and I feel that his approach to 'changing' EADD actually exacerbated problems rather than addressing them.

I love Lou Reed, but the guy made a few really lousy records. Y'know?

it's disrespectful though when he's not here to defend himself or his reasons for his choices. It's in bad taste, Sammy, I'm not trying to start with you but that's what I feel and had to say something when reading that.
