then, unbelievably... after the conclusion of the 'interview', the guy , the fuckin interviewer - took me out to the back secure carpark AND YES HAD A SPLIFF WITH ME. sweeping his hand over all the fancy, expensive cars as he did so - telling me, 'see, you can have all this too'

we finished, bid goodbye and as we shook hands he again reiterated that he really likes me and formalities aside - id got the job


i left the place giddy. so surreal, so amazing. i gushed to everyone, about my cool, weed smoking boss, the fancy cars, that id finally escaped all the factories and labouring and was looking forward immensely to throwing myself heart and soul into this olive branch of a dream job








..... turns out, the guy who interviewed me was actually only in charge while the head manager was away - and as such had no authority to conduct interviews or offer the position as such

seems like he got in a bit of trouble, and sadly - i think his choice of myself was purposely passed over. they hired another guy in the end, one of the applicants who came in before mine, who from what i had been informed - was a late middle ages bloke who was nowhere near as au fait with computers as i was told i had been. thus as far as i can infer, was punished for someone else's fuck up

and yup, was pretty damn crushed for a while. false hope is the worst, man

Yeah man, it pisses me off how one of the ladies said send us an email on monday if you still want the job, I mean why would you something like that? It's obvious I'm going to think I have the job.

Maan, i just got my tesco online shopping from a few days back delivered, i dunno if i was high or what when ordering, but i've boughta large bgag of every different breed of apples under the sun, my fridge is now stocked to bursting with them!

On the plus side applews last for months before going off right?

And also on the plus side, i bought some cheesey bread, cherry tomatoes and other god-like condiments and am now about to make mysellf a delicious sandwich :)

Jesus fucking Christ one of those stupidly large transporter planes just passed about 100ft over the top of my house. If that. That was ridiculous.

Sure, if you live nearby i'll hook you up ;), got Royal Gala, Coxes, Braeburns, even granny smiths for the interested connoisseur.

Plus side is, i just made a fucking amazing sandwich, i have one of those apple corers then change appokes from being an alright fruit to the best, tastiest, and niocest to eat.

And some haagen-daaz or whatever high grade ice creams :) i think high me likes sober me.

On the other hand, some marigold goves nd loads of house washing shit, i'm getting mixed messages :(

Fucking hell. Stuff like that shits me up. Used to live relatively near to an RAF base and the jets/choppers/whatever would fly so so close and I just envisioned my own death each time, for twenty two years.

Edit: bonus anecdote, one time we were just heading home after a walk out near a gliding club and one near brushed my car aerial coming in to land. Fortunately I was stoned as fuck and so not driving or we'd have been off the edge of a cliff.

I just screamed a lot instead.

Aye we get the jets all the time, can always tell when they're ramping shit up against some perceived foreign threat, and while they make 100x the noise of the transporters they do at least stay a respectable (?) 1000ft up or so. THIS was like slow silent death coming towards us, just saw the lights, no noise, from a few hundred metres away then it was a case of "that's a bit low isn't it? FUCKING HELL!"

Im not being racist. I am angry because I'm struggling as they did not have the right facilities for my disability so I missed out a lot yet THEY come here n get more than me when I'm a British citizen. Anyway I shouldn't have mentioned it as the who thing winds me up. These people don't live here they come to study. I'm in debt trying my hardest not getting the right support, ending up depressed n ODing (taking lots of citralopram etc) over feeling small n humilated while THEY come here, use our facilities..... P***** me off. Sorry but it does.

More importantly, why do you feel justified in extending your contempt for 'THEM' indiscriminately, to each and every 'foreigner'?

It's not really nice...
 
The fees that foreign students pay for their courses, helps to keep UK universities open and running, giving a wider choice of unis for UK students.

What do we actually give to foreign students that they don't pay for themselves (don't they just bring in their own money from overseas and spend it here)?

Do we give them anything for free at all?

Hey, come on.

I lived with a Chinese/Canadian girl and she paid shitloads to be here. They don't just jump off into our universities and colleges and take the piss. They pay a lot more than we do.

I'm in debt. I am finding it hard to find support. No doubt the foreigners are finding it hard in a foreign country plus language barriers and people not wanting them here. We all have our difficulties.

It's not their fault. Don't blame it on them. Also note we are European and African Drug Discussion so...

Out of interest, in what ways do 'THEY' get more than you?

I work in HE and it can be a very difficult, isolating and depressing experience for foreign students at times, particularly for those who encounter real culture clashes.

I do accept that, depending on the subject, some courses end up with a slightly unsettling number of foreign students on them because institutions get so much more money from them (for instance I've spoken to some English students on business related courses that have felt uncomfortable as such a large proportion of their class speaks Mandarin).

edit Well I was obviously a bit slow off the mark there and everyone seems to have said the same thing. But to elaborate on Marmalade's point: many institutions have been finding things increasingly difficult recently (despite the rise in fees) so they are relying more and more on the money paid to them by international students to keep academics from emigrating to better paid positions overseas and to ensure home students continue to receive a similar standard of education. It's a difficult position, and I have a few reservations around the numbers of international students on some courses as I worry that language barriers may result in a general dumbing-down of education standards, but it isn't something to blame the students themselves for. If you want to blame anybody it should be the government...
