I understand that and agree, I'm just saying that military spending absolutely dwarfs the outlay on events like the Olympics, and yet yer average Joe or Jane remains utterly silent on this front, reserving their piss and vinegar for what is (whether you personally enjoy it or not) both a public spectacle and an elite sporting contest.

It's analogous to demonising those on benefits while ignoring tax-dodgers, though at least in recent years there has been at least some demonisation of the latter, if not any actual action.
 
Panorama: Putin's Games - goes some way to explaining where all the money went. Allegedly. A big part of the problem being that it's a Winter Olympics being held at a sub-tropical beach resort. The whole thing (aside from the skiing) is having to be refrigerated to stop it melting. You try running several freezers the size of stadia and see what yer next bill looks like ;)

And corruption. Plenty of that too.

That does explain a lot, was wondering where all the snow was.

People are going to have a field day when the Qatar 2022 World Cup comes around, 80 workers died already in the first 2 years and homosexuality banned, and drinking also being an islamic state and all, apart from designated fan zones though! Your alright in there to get up to whatever debauchery you want.
 
I just realized something, I've been on opiates, benzos and small doses of dissociatives all week and haven't touched a single drop of alcohol, meanwhile my attitude has changed, I feel much more positive and friendly.

It's official, beer makes me a twat.

I never get pissed tho. And alcohol only ever lifts my mood, otherwise I wouldnt drink it.
