Gibberings CLIV: Fecking Finally

Morning people. Am still alive. Shocking fucking lack of internet in this place. Would dearly love some medicine, rush to the bank to put some cash in on Monday was evidently not rushy enough to get me home in time to order anything before all the vendors up and closed for the week, so it's not even been fecking dispatched yet. Oh well :D Gonna make the most of the time til it gets here doing my essays and attempting to bring order to the house. Gonna get the books all on their shelves today I reckons.

I'm so glad I booked today and tomorrow off from work. Am having a particularly lovely day not working. Snoo.

I just had to reapply a nicotine patch to my arm with brown packaging tape...And since it's not designed to be put on skin I needed quite a lot. This would be utterly humiliating if I weren't on my own. I can tell you guys though ;) I bet someone's done this before.

Somebody somewhere seems to have thought it wise to use the same sticky stuff for nicotine patches as they use for Post-It notes. They only seem to stay attached properly if you stick them in obscure places. In my case that usually means wherever they happen to re-stick themselves after overnight, toss 'n' turn, bed-based unsticking. They seem to collect in hard-to-reach areas of my back. Perhaps I should try the brown packing tape solution - both stylish and effective %):sus:%)

You could go really hardcore and use duct tape.

Ms Dragon always gives the most sensible of advices. Therefore I blame you...

No nicotine cravings, mind, so I think you're on to summat all the same :D

how can you sleep getting nicotone pumped into you throughout the night :?

It seems many people are on to this stop smoking business currently. The stakes are really higher than theyve ever been for my current quit attempt. It is so important i hold out this time as it will help me quit bupe and benzos. It is important i gett off the first substance in particular ASAP as i have a relative who is ill who lives abroad and i may need to take a long flight at any point over the next days, weeks, or months.

Usually by lying down and closing my eyes for a while, MDB ;)

Think it's one of those YMMV things. Doc told me to keep nicotine patch on through the night initially but to take it off before bed if it was keeping me awake or giving me freaky dreams (as I do believe it's known for). I never noticed sleeping better or worse with or without patch, to be honest.

I do need to get back on the patches though cos have slipped a bit over the festives. Been smoking actual cigs. Inna pack. Bought another 20 today (so sixty in total this last (just over a) week) which is not too bad but also not too good.

Day 1 without any nicotine yesterday, i fell asleep so much easier, and woke and got up earlier than i have done for weeks today, partially because i had an appointment to actually be somewhere but it seemed to be easier to get out of bed this morning.

My but you are a lil tapering/quitting whirlwind of late, MDB 8o

Good stuff - well done :)<3

I noticed you talking about quitting e-cigs and how you felt it made it much easier to deal with the Subbiez issue. Interesting. Am still toying with the idea of doing the e-cig thing rather than trying to stick it out with nicotine replacement. It does feel like "giving in" rather than "giving up" though which bothers me somewhat. Bothers me less than lung cancer or a heart attack, mind. I was doing rather well before the festives though so should probably get back on the patches again first. Keep saying I'll give 'em one last go but also keep finding excuses to kinda spoil that one last go. Doc is insisting that I should stay on patches for a minimum of six months cos that is apparently far more effective in the long term compared with trying to rush it.

Hormone patches are similar. My old housemate was MtF trans and her patches kept falling off in the bath and all round the house, spent ages amusing myself wondering if any of the lads would come out with a pair of tits, although apparently them things are fucking strong. Well they must be! Never found post it notes useful cos they just fall off stuff, though did make one ill fated attempt to roll a cigarette with them once. Bleuch.

Edit: Is anyone else experiencing weird thread-related sorcery? A lot of the time I'll post, click on the link to go back to the main forum, and it shows the last poster in that thread as whoever was above me and when I click on the thread again my post doesn't appear til I refresh it. Either that or it'll say someone has posted since or at the same time, like it did just now with kingme and when I clicked on the last page again it showed neither my post nor kingme's til I refreshed it. It confused the shit out of me earlier when I was trying to do something mod-related and couldn't find a post I was certain I'd made so it's not just EADD.

getting up in the morning early always makes me feel more energized for some reason rather than overdoing sleep.... there is a certain point after which its just more tiring to remain in bed :P

yeah nicotine has a massive negative physical impact on me, to the extent that ive been a self defeating idiot to continue with the habit for so long. Such are the nature of addictions though. Ive never tried patches, im not sure if im being helpfull or destructive in saying this, but im sure you will judge for yourself, i found ecigs very enjoyable (at times) and they seem to be far easier to quit than tobacco cigarettes. Since i stopped early on new years day i have only had 1 bout of fleeting moderately strong cravings. You do need a good brand of ecig though or they taste like crap and the wick life is incredibly annoying how quickly they start to tatse burnt out in the cheaper brands. Like i say the family situation is really causing me to "put a wiggle on" this time. Maybe one branch of my family might just about accept and tolerate my benzo problem if circumstances mean i have to break that to them, but i doubt theyd ever think of me the same if they knew about my opi problems.

I know what you mean about oversleeping kingme, unfortunately 9mg of etiz kind of complicates things a bit, so im not sure exactly how much sleep i need. Ill probably stay on 9mg bedtime dose until im off bupe.

Nicotine patches give you mad, mental lucid dreams. I got addicted to the patches when I used them to stop smoking, couldn't give em up for a long while then started smoking again to get off the patches duh. What an idiot. Anyhoo, best of luck to those battling it out with the fags - win! I eventually went cold turkey and that was 2 years and 8 months ago.

How are you all? Take it I'm in the naughty corner today...

i think we need at least 6h of sleep per night. thats my lower limit i find. i can make do with 4.5h but not for more than a week, and anything above 9h is overkill.

mdb - you might also want to try doing some cardio exercise in the morning. seriously, running for 15 minutes will give you a big boost in energy for the next day...

Same, 6hrs min, 8 pref, im usually fine on 4 for a couple of days but then have to make the time back up. used to go on around 5/6 all week after long weekend mashups, burnt me out in the end in a physical job. and yeah cardio is excellent for boosting energy. i sleep better after and have more energy after and the next day, feel pretty buzzing after cardio as well. and weight training

i really wish i could run, i used to really enjoy cross country running at school. Since then my body seems to be falling to bits though i get massive knee and shin pains if i try to jog or run any distance. I can still walk, cycle or swim though eh. Stephen Fry presented some health related gadget show last night, theres these Kangoo Jump things that allow you to run and avoid most impact. They cost £160 though and id feel very self conscious using these things round here as i havent seen any one else using them.

"We" don't need 6h sleep. There's massive variation from one person to the next. Some folk don't seem to suffer any ill effects even if only sleeping an hour (or less) per day. Others need at least eight to even begin to function. I tend to be nearer the latter end of the spectrum (chemical enhancements allowing).

Sleep FACT: D'ya know that still nobody knows why we actually need to sleep? Well you do now. Same applies to yawning, incidentally. That's two sleep-related FACTs for the price of none, you lucky, lucky people 8o

Take it I'm in the naughty corner today...

*spanks her naughty lil botty*

Any excuse 8)

erm some scientists believe that we need to sleep as the brain needs REM sleep to either consolidate or stimulate the brain as required after the events of each day, also yawning is believed by some to increase oxygen intake when required. Its only theories and conjecture though, AFAIK these are their current best guesses and as you say they dont really know for sure. Sorry for the geeky dorkyness of the reply. I should put some masking tape on the bridge of my specs eh.
