Funny seeing people try 4-FA for the first time. It's been lovely for ages!

I went to my skills development appointment today for my meeting about retraining. I was five minutes late as I couldn't find a parking space so I made a bit of a noisy, out of breath entrance. They asked me to take a seat and an attractive young lady made way for me. She immediately started telling me, excitedly, how she was early for her appointment, and that she'd ran in her boots, and enthusiastically showed me her boots (and her fine legs in the process), giggling away. I had no idea what to say, bereft of regular human interaction as I am, and all I could muster was "oh dear".

The appointment, which lasted for an hour, was not nearly as interesting although I have a couple of new contacts and websites to use. Apparently the best way for would-be electricians to find potential employers is to use yell.com and uswitch. Joined up thinking at it's finest.

I'd be extremely wary of attractive young ladies anyhow if I were you. Especially friendly ones. Nowt good comes of that.

That 4-FA stuff seems to have stuck around, doesn't it? Been close to a year since I indulged. It's been almost a year since my last major drug binge of any kind actually. Give or take the odd heroin mishap.

Anybody else fancy going straight in 2014?

Oooh, pretty avatar, Dan!

Yikes. Did they mention companies like A4E that are meant to help people get into work? Apprenticeships also seem to work well but it depends on what level you want to get a job at.. (Any big construction project will demand a certain number of trainees/apprentices per job, so there are often plenty of those opportunities.)

I might give up alcohol completely, does that count?

No, I don't think A4E operates in Scotland, certainly I just took a look at apprenticeships on their website and there were no Scottish locations in the drop down list.

An apprenticeship is, I think, exactly what I want. I understand electrics, and I am not happy about doing desk work any more, because of my neck, hands and backside, so it seems the obvious choice. Level? Best electrician in Scotland? :D I've always been ambitious.

I dunno, i take it your not counting weed ? Im not quite ready for it. I think i need to get through at least a few more weeks of winter, so that spring doesnt seem an eternity away.

Going completely straight would be a massive adjustement/re-adjustment for me. Over the last month Ive been learning and trying to think of ways to gradually come to terms with opiate sobriety in the evenings, but its been a bloody difficult thing to do. Ive got many more substances to tick off the list, and havent totally stopped bupe, the occasional lapse is still creeping in. I'd have to go the whole way and give up smoking too, then like a more normal person the evening meal would be the main focal point of the evening, preparing it, enjoying eating it, and washing up afterwards. Smoking has a massive impact on everything i do, at the moment food is just something i have to eat to prevent hunger and is just a chore. I remember enjoying food and cooking and stuff like that much more when i didnt smoke.

Electrician is a decent trade/skill to have. Its not a filthy backbreaking nackering job thats gonna wreck your body, its more about a little bit of brains than just brawn, or pure physical abilty like plastering or something. Have you ever tried that ? My god its so difficult to do, but the pros make it look so easy. Decorating isnt too bad, not really a very highly skilled job, although things like getting the line straight at the top of the wall, if you want the ceiling a different colour isnt a piece of piss, it requires some skill, or proper eqiupment i spose, i guess i was using the wrong type of masking tape or someting as it ripped off the paint it was attached too, i eventually 'freestyled' it, and was getting better at that as i progressed round the room.

I wouldnt mind a job as a courier for a while, i like driving, and being out and about, although it could be stressfull with time limits and stuff, a hardware engineer would be an ideal job for me. Simple things like replacing components, and visiting different places every day, and meeting loads of new people. Sounds more interesting than being stuck in the same office with the same people every day, week in week out. Or even a taxi driver would be OK, though there is some risk of being a victim of crime, or at least cunts doing a runner on you. Also wouldnt mind being a driving instructor, but these things are a bit dishonest, the training companies that guarentee a job are lying, there are hundreds of qualified instructors and not enough learners for all the instructors to earn a living.

Nice aint it, i love beautiful scenery sorta stuff

Nah but its a good thing to do, booze is nasty stuff. but i love it

I was tempted to try bupe but the halflife is long, and opiates make me feel so lethargic and shit after if i overdo it, might leave them all together

Desk work is killing me too. I think I'm going to retire and become a pirate instead. Anyway, I had a quick Goggle and it might be worth chatting to these guys - http://www.sectt.org.uk/ - looks like they might be able to point you in the right direction. :)

Piracy sounds best of all. Thanks for the link, I actually got that one today though! If I'd realised you were going to start googling for me I'd have been more complete about what happened today :)

Pfft, rubbish. I would like those 2 seconds back, please. :p

Nah, was just being nosy really. Plus it's something I tend to have to waffle about in my job so it's worth knowing. ;)

My dad's a plumber knock, he's got a trainee with him at the moment who just rang up and said he was willing to work for free for a bit to gain experience. The guy was reliable and eager so he took him on after a few weeks... Always worth a try if it's financially viable.

Grr it seems my reliable weed dealer of 4 years has decided to call it a day or been busted :|, his phones been off for a week or so. The only other guy I knew packed it in a few months ago :(

Headcrab! I've not played Episode 2 for about a month, I was stuck with a load of zombies last time I looked. Sometimes I just run out of patience with the longer battles. I'll get back to it though.
