I tried vaping some on foil (amazing how much it looks like gear) which gives a short lived giddy high, but it's not worth wasting it in this way - so yeh, I'm saving it...

I've got some 4-ho-mipt in my wallet that looks like gear, I occasionally catch a glimpse of it then get excited for a second before remembering what it is ha
 
It was too cloudy so i had to improvise for my moon viewing experience

Lol.

The super moon over here was not extraordinarily big for some reason.

The waning moon last night appeared bigger. I was riding my bike all night, so was quite happy to have it.
 
I've seen so many different event lunar events but the moon is mostly just a nuisance to me. Except for when there's an eclipse or blood moon, the moon is usually just a pain in the arse as it reduces my visibility of other celestial objects.

Meteor showers have also lost most of their novelty for me as they come around so often and I will see many meteors on any given night of astronomy anyway.

Do you use a telescope Don? I toyed with the idea years ago as really fancied my hand at some astro photography and I had done the research and was about to buy a telescope (Celestron Nextar either the 130 SLT or the SE). I was all set to buy it when my hubbys friend told him that moving the telescope often would cause the lens to get misaligned and as we have nobody local to reset them the idea sort of died a death.

I've only used reflector telescopes so there are mirrors rather than lenses. The mirrors can become misaligned if they take a knock and will misalign over time through use. However, it is really simple to collimate a Dobsonian reflector telescope and it doesn't need collimated all that often if you're gentle with it. There are also many easy guides on youtube. I use my friend's telescope which is a 6 inch Dobsonian. It's big enough to collect a decent amount of light and easily portable.

Unless you live in a rural area, you're probably going to be disappointed by backyard astronomy - a telescope that's portable and easy to set up is very useful for getting to dark sites.

A good alternative for starting with astronomy is a decent pair of binoculars. You'll be able to see Jupiter's moons and some deep sky objects in a dark area.

This is what put me off to be honest, I would have to break it down and transport it each time I wanted to use it as we have too much light around us here. We also thought about getting a decent pair of binoculars but the object was to attach my camera to the telescope and do some photography.

I think I'll just resign myself to being a pleb and enjoying the moon and the odd comet for now.

No, not fresh ones unless you know of a specialist market. I used to make my own but it was a bit difficult getting them thin enough without a tortilla press.

Sham had his first flour tortilla chip last night. I think he's hooked.
