Gibberings CCIXV2 - And Now For Something Completely Different

Started the day with a healthy breakfast of porridge and almond milk - then started on the JD :D, today is not going to be a productive one.
 
Started the day with a banging headache, a bothersome dental abcess that has swollen up, but a sense of satisfaction at getting a shitload of work done yesterday. (and by heavens my kitchen looks a hell of a lot cleaner and more organised too)

Sun is shining and I can afford to spend a couple of hours catching a few rays while waking up and getting on with another 6 hours of productivity.

Get that abcess checked out ASAP bro. Mostly dental abcesses are just painful and easily treated but if left go untreated you can end up with septicemia which is something you definitely want to avoid. Get some antibiotics onto that pronto.
 
Yeah I don't really want to die young of septicemia but this has happened before and has resolved itsef after a few days with no issues. also allergic to amoxycillin which is what they generally prescribe for that kind of infection over here. Need to get the underlying cause fixed properly but have a crippling dental phobia, which is why I'm in this situation in the first place. Psyching myself up to go and see a consultant about getting the work done, which I've been putting off for far too long, will probably get it sorted out at some point in the near future.

tiny bit of benzocaine gel applied to the gum is helping a little with the pain. (pregabalin and 60mg of codeine phosphate with a gram of paracetemol isn't really helping much atall but I know there isn't a lot that will touch that kind of neurpathic pain.

it's the referred pain that goes up the side of my head that is the worst.

anyway plenty of school work to do which help take my mind off it (ironically, working through some material on the neurobiological basis behind links between attention and pain perception)
 
Unfortunately the infection will not resolve itself once you have an abcess so you will need to get treatment. There are other antibiotics they could use i am sure. I have seen more than a few cases of septicemia caused by dental abcesses which i why i am advising you strongly to go get the infection dealt with pronto. You cant fix whatever the underlying problem is anyway until the infection is managed. It could remain as it is for months or it could go to systematic infection in a matter of days. I personally would not be taking the risk after seeing the results of septicemia on patients and how seriously difficult that can be to manage. Just my 2 cents....well more like $2 but you get where i am coming from i am sure.
 
Yeah I will be vigilant for any signs of complications or worsening of it, but at the moment it's just a bit uncomfortable, if need be I can go to a 24/7 emergency dental clinic to get it drained.

I have seen someone slipping into septic shock / delirium due to an infection under their thumbnail that spread up their arm, wasn't pretty, but I know what to look out for and will go get help if I feel at risk, got family close by and on call if need be.

My experience of an abscess was fuckin unpleasant, im sure theres more painful things in the world of physical pain and being reckless and clumsy, I've experienced a fair few. That abscess tops the lot easily.

I left mine as it was only an occasional dull pain. Then out of nowhere I'm screaming and shouting like a baby. Even when you go to the dentist all they can do (for me at the time) is give antibiotics for a few days, so there was no instant relief of just yanking the tooth out.

I then had complications so all in all, it was at least 7 days of acute pain..
 
Think if it was that bad it would be time for some opi's for me personally.

I got a new doctor, way better than the last one, who is taking things more seriously so might find out what is actually wrong. That last guy was a retard, sent my mum for a scan on the wrong organ - one in her medical notes it would have told him she'd had REMOVED lol :S

Just found 2 x 40mg oxy tablets i never knew i had, needless to say one's been snaffled :D
 
All the opiates in the world don't help a serious tooth absces .....one of the most painfull things ever....

There was the time when I got stabbed in the arse with a rusty blade on the door of a well know north east nightclub and spent a week in hospital having the abscess drained and my veins pumped with IV antibiotics but that's an entirely different story. ....

If we are talking abcesses i will raise the stakes and see everyones experiences with a perianal abcess. Nothing i have experienced comes close to the pain of that fucker. I had 3 shots of morphine iv which had zero effect on the pain the pethadine IM on the arm which sent me to lala land. 25 min after presenting to ED triage i was in an operating theater. Thats how serious an abcess can get.

Who is new moderator? I was almost going to apply but I think my infractions would have gone against me hehe. Is it consumer? or is it englandgz? Small town casual? SHM? Or which strange new entity do we have waving the iron fist above us? Stee. I bet it's Stee. If it were up to me, I vote Techno Viking, this place needs more Techno. And vikings.

Agreed. Had the dubious pleasure of an infected dental abscess (how that differs from any other dental abscess I could not say but is what the dentist called it) a couple years back and is hands down the worst pain I have ever experienced. Had to wait a week for an appointment before I could even get antibiotics and even my somewhat curmudgeonly dentist told me to just come in any time they were open and he'd pack it with what was presumably some kinda benzocaine-soaked wadding (lil strip of something that definitely worked but only for a few hours before it was back to screaming agony). Ended up on hardcore antibiotics and no alcohol for 2-3 months. Nasty things are abscesses when left too long :|

Secret Squirrel bizniz innit. Deliberations are currently taking place. We'll probably be decided by the end of the week but it won't be announced until it's gone through the smod forum. As always, these things run on BL time but get there in the end.
