Ghetto absinthe (AKA wormwood and vodka)

Hi, I am getting my hands on 100g of wormwood. I already have 1L of vodka. What I want to do is make an "absinthe" that you can get discernible effects from, from a few shots. Therefore I want to make it quite strong.

Most recipes for absinthe contain ~30g wormwood (and other herbs) per 750 ml alcohol.

I am planning to put in about 75g into the liter of vodka that I do have. I know it will taste like ass, especially because I will not be adding other herbs (maybe one or two others..)

My plan is to grind up the wormwood, mix with vodka in bottle for a few days (shaking intermittently) and then at the end of a few days filtering the wormwood out through coffee filters, and hopefully having some strong alcohol with thujone. Mmm mmm mmm!

Is 75g/L too much? Hypothetically 1 shot of this mix should contain over twice as much thujone as 30g/750ml?

Any other tips or advice?

Perhaps use a wormwood extract? Might make it more palatable if there's less non-active crap in there. Also, 75g of wormwood is a large volume, so you'd lose a lot of liquid straining it.
 
In my city, there isn't a huge selection. Internet ordering is not an option.

I do see that 75g could lose some liquid straining it, but I could squeeze it through a cheesecloth minimizing loss.

Also I could re saturate the remains to utilize the rest of the chemical in it.

Wish I could get some thujone extract..
 
I drank some nasty black market russian absinthe that my friend brought back from her trip (2 different brands). This stuff was the real deal and tasted like hell.

In the end all it did was get me shitfaced.
 
Absinthe doesn't make your trip or any bullshit like that. It basically produces a more clear-headed drunken-ness. Basically, thujone reverses the effects of alcohol in your brain, so they fight with each other at the receptor.
 
I had fun with absinthe in Europe... but it wasn't "mind blowing".. I sometimes order bottles from Europe. I wouldn't mess with "ghetto absinthe".. Sounds kind of nasty to me.. lol

I been researching absinthe and I've come across the page where you can find out about the history, the ingredients and a kit to make it. I'm going to give it a try.

Well I just got my absinthe kit that I ordered and I'm about to try to make up a batch. I have to see for myself if there's anything unusual about this liqueur. I'm hoping it will turn out well. Didn't the French ban it for some reason?

Exactly. I've never seen the appeal of Absinthe myself. Well, a more clear-headed intoxication would be nice I suppose. Bit like a Benzo or GABAb agonists?
 
I myself have been on the hunt for the green fairy too,it's been a looooong time and I'm ready to dance with the green nymph! Everywhere I have checked (and its ALOT) says if you are going to make it yourself DO NOT USE THE EXTRACT it could have very grave effects. The longer you leave the wormwood in the vodka the stonger the thujone. One of the best parts of drinking Absinthe is the ritual....the spoon the sugar the ice water. If you didnt drink it that way then it probably tasted REALLY bitter. I hope I was of some type of help! If I can help in any other way leave me a message!!!
