I recently have toned down my GBL use from daily to next to nothing, I now usually dose 1.2-1.5ml before I workout once a day. However I have abused GBL so much recently I receive none of the original benefits of the drug such as the drunk feeling and the euphoria. I have stopped using GBL all together to try to drop my tolerance however I was wondering if there is anything else I can do to help repair the receptors or help my tolerance to drop quicker.

I checked a few websites but most of the sites like projectGHB and a few FAQ's but cant seem to find any information to repair the effects. Any advice would be appreciated. -DJ

does GHB interact with GABA, I thought despite the structural similarities it didn't??

GHB does interact with GABA-B receptors...and I'm pretty sure the 'GHB receptor' is an allosteric site on a GABA receptor (much like the 'benzodiazepine receptor').

Edit /\: Hmm from reading further it would appear I'm wrong about that second statement...the GHB receptor is a novel GPCR.

To my knowledge, the "GHB receptor" is a completely separate entity from the GABA-B complex, or GHB's actions upon it.

I will tell you this, though... if anyone can tell me how this "ghb receptor" can be repaired, I would be immensely greatful. Lets just say that my GHB habit was more destructive for me than all the other habits I've had combined (including heroin).

My apologies, I knew it interacted with GABA-B receptors and just assumed the undiscovered receptor was some sort of GABA receptor.

Possibly something to do with HGH (which stimulates synthesis of).

This seems to be an interesting subject. I have no knowledge of how to reduce me tolerance other than to quit using and return after a long break. It would be nice to know a way to speed the process. Thanks for the responses. -DJ

For this I'd like to add that the break should be several years at least. I have no intention of ever ingesting that shit again in my life, but 2 years later and I'm still suffering.

Jamshyd, out of curiousity have you ever got you HGH levels checked? Is it even possible to check these levels?

GHB can raise HGH levels up to 16 times.

Samadhi it is very possible to check the level of HGH

"As important as HGH is, it does not last long in our bloodstream. In just a few short minutes our liver absorbs HGH and converts it into growth factors. IGF-1 is the most important growth factor that is produced. So, IGF-1 is a hormone just like HGH, but it is easier to measure in the body because it stays in our bloodstream longer than HGH. You can think of HGH as the hormone that gets the ball rolling, but IGF-1 does most of the work."

Also you can see that HGH is really out of the system quite quickly through the liver.

I am wondering if there are any smart drugs that will help in repairing the GABA receptors. I currently do not take any smart drugs however I am very interested in Piracetam. Possibly these substances can aid in the recovery of the receptors.

I am going to keep doing some more research. Meanwhile it sounds like most other threads on the subject recommend the same thing.

Healthly diet
Complete vitamin and mineral supplements
Exercise
Consistantly good 6-8 hours of sleep

Thanks for the help with this everyone and I wish you all good luck on repairing those receptors. -DJ

Out of curiousity what sort of symptoms are you experiencing? It may be possible to treat those symptoms with nootropics (but not actually repair the receptors that are downregulated). Probably only time would help that, but nootropics may help you cope meanwhile.

Actually I am not experiencing any of the negative effects of addiction. I experienced withdraw symptoms from 24/7 use for a period of a month or so. I am just really looking to gain the positive effects back from it faster. It has become one of my favorite substances to use due to its nature.

I was reading up on wikipedia on nootropics and found some very promising information which included replenishing and increasing neurotransmitters

For those of you interested.

Interesting.

I have never had my HGH levels checked...

As for what I'm suffering from, basically, anhedonia, extreme lack of sex drive (to the point of finding sex icky), and lethargy and lack of motivation to do anything.

Basically, it feels like a perpetual crash from a dopaminergic drug (this, in fact, was what led me to abuse amphetamine).

The negative effects have been consistent ever since the physical w/d from GHB abated (which in itself is worse than a hunder opiate withdrawals).

As for nootropics, I have tried Huperzine, Oxiracetam, Nefiracetam, Pyritinol, Vincamine, Vinpocetine, Phenibut, and Picamilon. The only ones that did anything worth noting were Huperzine and Vincamine. Phenibut even had its own physical withdrawal syndrome not unlike that of GHB.

None of these nootripics did anything for the symptoms, and most of them make me even more depressed.

Daily dosing with small ammounts of Ketamine was the only thing that ever worked.

I hate this drug with a passion.

Jamshyd, if you dont mind me asking what was your habit like?

For myself I spent a good 1-2 months of daily G abuse. The abuse rose slowly overtime increasing drastically on the weekends. When I came off G I tapered and wrote a paper on it but it really wasn't worth posting. I spent about a week tapering down to nothing and then just spent 3 days awake no sleep with some anxiety issues during work. The 4th day I started to take diphenylhydramine to help as a sleep aid. I noticed that it also helped reduce the constant sweating I was experiencing from my hands and face. This was a real life saver and gave me some hope on getting through the whole process.

Anyways just wondering what you went through -DJ

It is unfortunate that I didn't know about the diphenhydramine trick and the cholinergic problem with GHB w/d (heh, I even had scopolamine patches and never thought of using them!).

My habit was such that I had to take a lot (honetly I forgot how much) every 2-3 hours for about 2 months. That included waking up at night in a startle and a rush of utterly disgusting peripheral stimulation, take my dose, go back to sleep, repeat ad infinitum.

When I stopped, the withdrawal was characterized by almost paralyzing lethargy coupled with peripheral stimulation that felt like I was being electrocuted. Benzos helped only marginally. I had auditory hallucinations, paranoia, and extreme tremors. I think it lasted 2-3 days, but honestly I don't remember the exact numbers and I don't want to ;).

Thanks for the replies everyone. seems that only time will bring back the wonderful feeling that G used to produce. I learned quite a bit and had fun with the subject. thanks -DJ

I'm currently in the throws of a steadily increasing 1,4-b habbit. I've been using for over a year but it is only over the past 6 months that my habbit has seen a sharp increase in usage.

For at least the past month I have been dosing on average once-twice a day. I have had short day breaks to stopt the cycle, however binges over the weekends have well and truely made up for these "breaks".

I'm currently trying to stop, or at least cut back significantly to levels I was once at - weekends only. Is there any point in me setting myself these kind of objectives if I have already a addictive pull to this drug?

I was able to go without twice this week, but not for two days in a row. Tonight I felt I had to dose or the vein in my forehead would explode from the withdrawl headaches. Like DJ Kid said, I feel no intense euphoria anymore, just a sense of feeling 'normal'. Any tips on how to kick this habbit? I still love the stuff so its really hard to even get my head around losing it for good.. :(

I recommend a heavy taper, probably over 1 month. take .5 less each week for your normal dose. I tried to taper as fast as possible and was able to go from a daily 7-8 time a day usage to nothing in a week. But I only abused for 2 months straight not a year. Taper and then remember that diphenylhydramine is your friend. This helped me extremely well. Only switch to dipehylhydramine once you are totally off the G. I used 25 mg twice during the day once I was off G and 75 mg dose all at once at night to acquire sleep.

I wish you luck with stopping. Hope that this advice helps you out. -DJ
