I don't know the difference in taste between GHB and Na-GHB simply because i've never tasted the pharma stuff.
What I do know is that I have had pure Na-GHB
which didn't taste disgusting, just salty.
I would think that GHB tastes i little less salty because it hasn't got a Na-atom attached, but that's just guessing.
Pharma GHB is more potent by weight, because an Na atom is heavier than a H atom.
The effects are the same, except that NaGHB dehydrates you (more), because of the Na.
Quality, well that depends on the dealer/brewer. But GHB and NaGHB/KGHB should be a white powder, either hard wax like rocks, or crystals, depends on the fact if you let it crystalize or not. The odor should not be strong, and the taste should be salty, but only salty. Ph should be around 8 by the way.
