I registered just to get some help. My gf has never taken xanax before and popped 4 bars (8mgs) a couple hours ago. She is dead asleep and I can't wake her up. How long will this last?? Will she be ok to wake up by tomorrow afternoon?? Thanks in advance, I'm scared shitless!

She SHOULD be fine based on my opinion. This doesn't sound close to an OD, and benzos are known for making people temporarily comatose. 27.5 mg of clonazepam had me unconscious for about 15 hours. I don't know the specifics about alprazolam OD but I think the mod might be making a bigger deal of it than it is, then again he might be right.

wellll, it's hard to overdose on benzos alone....Is she pale with labored breathing?....IDFK....did she heat the Xanax, if so she may have serotonin syndrome....

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. She didn't take anything else or drank alcohol. She just took it with water like regular meds. She seems to be in deep sleep with heavy breathing, not quite snoring. I can't get response out of her even with heavy shaking though. She is not pale but her pulse seems slow. Is she going to be in this coma like state for days?

She shouldn't be, alprazolam has a short half-life. If she only took the xanex, and nothing else, and isn't medically compromised, the likelihood is that she'll just sleep it off, possibly have anterograde amnesia, and be really groggy for a while after she wakes up. Stay with her, make sure her breathing is okay, and that she doesn't get up and do something stupid, fall down stairs, set the house on fire, etc.

^I was just fucking around on my last post a little bit! dying from alprazolam alone is almost unheard of....if she's breathing and has color, she's fine!:)

Thanks again for the replies. She seems to be ok I guess and I'm less edgy now. How long til I should be able to wake her up?

with no tolerance for benzodiazepines, 8ms is a massive dose, however not dangerous! If you poured water on her or slapped the shit out of her, I'm sure you could at least wake her up and get her to mumble something right now, but that dose will take you out for awhile....Keep an eye on her, make sure she's breathing, but as long as she's not pale and breathing there's a 99% chance that she'll just eventually wake up and say, "wow, those 4 bars fucked me up!"....

But: Mixed with alcohol, opiates or many other things, alprazolam can be the thing that kills you! On its own it's a very safe drug.

She should be out for a good 12 hours. When she gets up she will still be out of it, and her memory will be very bad. Do not let her drive or do anything that requires motor functioning. She's going to need the next day to recover, and she should stay in because people do weird stuff while on high doses of xanax, even the next day (at least in high doses and when new to it).

benzodiazapines alone are really hard to OD and die on

and why the hell did she think it was smart to pop 4 bars of xanax her first time you better keep an eye on your gf dont want her thinkin she can handle something else other then benzos

and also just let her wake up on her own

She will be JUST FINE, do NOT worry, just imagine to yourself that she's REALLY drunk and passed out finally. she'll wake up soon but with no noticeable hangover.
to the people who say "omgz CALL THE BUS" i say, yeah, call the ambulance ON EVERY FUCKING THING while there is a real person needing help at the same time and he/she days because some idiot called an ambulance because of 4 xanax.
a trained responder would not send You one anyway if You told him/her that she hasnt used ANY alcohol/opiates in the last 24-36hrs.

i take 15-20 mg xanax/day and do everything a normal person does, it's just that i have a tolerance. like an alcoholic, if he doesnt have any, he will feel like somebody shit in his/her mouth, about to throw up, worst feeling etc. but as soon as he gets some vodka in him/her, its like he/she becomes sober. can walk/talk just fine, eat, exercise, drive a car like a normal person (unless given too much alcohol to feel "normal"), but people can have HUGE tolerances to benzos. ive had a 25mg a day tolerance myself, it wasnt to one benzo of course but a lot of different ones, like right now, but all together if we take xanax as example, it was 25-27mg xanax definitely. now, i never took ALL AT ONCE but throughout the die from the second i woke up to the time i went to bed and opened the triazolam, nimetazepam, flunitrazepam bottles and took 2 each. i always took 100mg diazepam about 2-3 hours before going to bed so it would start to work nicely and i took the hypnotics just so i would fall asleep in 1-2 mins, i hated lying in bed, listening to the TV (i ALWAYS slept with tv on, i woulda had that mad mithout the TV or anything i cared about) waiting for diazepam to finally take effect. when i woke up in the night to go to the toilet i also kept two lights on 24/7 so my eyes could get used to the light when i woke up in the middle of the night and had to start moving, get on my feet and see where i was going. after i had used the toilet, i sat down at the table, took a 3-5 hits of fentanyl (when i was still using but im on methadone now for 1 year+ and so instead of puffing of 3-methylfentanyl i just smoke camel 2-3x lights and swallow 4 30mg temazepam's with some juice. through trial and error i finally found the best combo for me was 30mg midazolam and 120mg temazepam (when going to sleep at first in the night, after that, just temazepam does the trick very well. i get nice 8-10 uninterrupted hours of sleep, am not hooked on the fent anymore and its good like that.
the halcion, erimin and rohypnol are much more 'fun' in the daytime, anyways. ;)

you live, you learn :)

She won't have a noticeable hangover like headache and vomiting like you get from alcohol, but she will have a hangover in terms of feeling completely out of it and still being tired for most of the day, and may have trouble forming new memories for the day. So yea it's no alcohol hangover, but there is a such thing as a benzo hangover and she is going to experience it.

Yeah it's very difficult to OD on benzos alone if you haven't taken them in combination with other CNS depressants, but it's also perfectly normal that she passed out and couldn't be woken up...As Tommyboy said, she's probably gonna be asleep for quite a while and when she does wake up, she's gonna feel like absolute shit for a day or two. But seriously in the future if you're worried just call an ambulance! I mean come on, she passed out in front of you from taking too many drugs - luckily they were benzos and aren't too dangerous that way but you don't want to take the chance if there's ever a next time :\

What the fuck is this bullshit? BL is not an emergency service, if you cared about your girlfriend and whether she lived through the night, you'd have called the proper authorities. BL is for proactive harm reduction, not after-the-fact-fuck-ups. I am really sorry for you being put in this position but you put us and your GF in a much graver situation.

If there were no other CNS depressants involved, she will wake up. If she's a poly drug addict, then you should have called the ambulance, hours ago. This thread is closed. Seek immediate medical attention if she's not okay and breathing.

Better safe than sorry, important lesson that you learn for the future.
