I currently get 90 .5mg pills once a month. i've been getting these since last january. I have an appointment with my doc soon and i wanna up my dosage and maybe add another benzo script for falling asleep. To Doctor:"i'd like to start taking wellbutrin again with klonopin but it just seems like the klonopin wasn't killing the nervousness and anxiousness so i decided to stop the wellbutrin because alot of anxiety comes from that. do i need a hire dosage? or is that normal?" Doctor to me: "you must have built up a tolerance since you started on them, i should probably boost you up to 1mg 3 times a day" Me to Doctor: "i was reading on the internet about sleeplessness/anxiety/depression and came across quite a few patients taking 2 different kinds, one to goto sleep on with a short half-life and the other two longer half-life to last during the day, this sounds like a good idea, what is a short lasting benzodiazepine and which are long half-life's?" Doctor to Me: xanax, ativan are both shorter acting benzodiazepines, klonopin and valium are longer acting benzodiazepines. The shorter acting ones with the plates that were clean in it
hehe. Me To Doctor: "so i'm on 90 1mg klonopin a month, maybe i can take those twice a day instead so i do not feel hung over in the morning after and 30 xanax or ativan for sleeping? i figure this will prevent the problems waking up tired every morning
is this feasible, will it work? anything to add to it?

it's feasible, depending on the doctor, but try not to sound overtly educated on the topic of benzodiazepines and the frequency with which you desire to use them

Do NOT come off that knowledgable about benzos... you're a clueless patient, if you start talking about half-lives and crap like that, you will only shitlist yourself.. you might be able to get the Klonopin dose increased a bit, but the idea of getting a second, short-acting benzo is really more far-fetched then you think..
You have 1.5mg per day, so try to work that up a tiny bit then be happy...

You know what Phreex... I'm going to visit a shrink for the first time in about 10 days. He's got a rep for being great with younger individuals, and very easy on the "recreational" scripts. I'm going to be completely frank and open about my knowledge, i'll likely know more than he does. If he decides to presribe me another shit SSRI, well, I already have those, and can get access to anything else I need to self-medicate. Call this an experiment in human nature, to see if *all* shrinks are complete uptight assholes. What's your opinion? -Fury

My opinion is that you ignorant if you think you know more then a shrink and chances are your like 15 years old...
[EDIT - sorry, we are trying to cut back on the flames, and throwing in those extra words will do NOTHING but insight a angry response...]

You do not know more then he does.. you may think you do, but you don't.. and I have been to enough doctors to know that if you come in and start throwing around all kinds of technical terms, it only looks like you have spent more time then you should reading about this stuff, and the people that do that are, well, people like US, that take the drugs for recreation.. there is a line betwwen being an "informed patient" and having the knowledge of a drug user - it's not even a fine line.. you can say something like "well I have read about others in my situation that found relief with Klonopin, what do you think about this?" .. but if he says "no, I don't think thats best for you" - YOU DON'T ARGUE! Unless you have been on the medication before (and take note, this is a good angle to try) - YOU DON'T KNOW THAT THE DRUG WOULD BE GOOD FOR YOU...
It's not an issue of your shrink being an "uptight asshole", it's about YOU comming off as a drug user.. think about it, when a patient has the flu and a doctor prescribed an antibiotic, how many patients tell their doctor "Well I don't think Ceclor is the best choice, how about Amoxicillin?" .. but when it comes to pain killers and benzos, doctors are contantly hearing people suggest that a drug that - surprise - has abuse potential, would be better then a drug that, while proven effective, is not fun to take..
But hey, I may be wrong, so go for it!

Well, what I said came out a bit harsh... and to whomever said that, NO, I am not a teenager

Anyway, I didn't mean to say I know more about psychiatry than the shrink, in fact, I KNOW he knows more. I merely meant I'd probably have more knowledge of the medicines, and how they'd effect me, that he might prescribe. Basically, I've been on wellbutrin, prozac, paxil, Celexa, etc.... they ONLY work when I took them with a few of my friends Kpins. Now, i'm not even a rec. user, the only problem is, I have a MASSIVE natural resistance to every drug I've ever tried. Now, I somehow have to come off as knowledgeable, yet be able to suggest I higher starting dosage than normal, or a higher dose period than normal. Oh well, c'est la vie, c'est la guerre, we'll see how it goes

P.S. Oh, and phreex... not to be a total ass( though it will seem that way), but my IQ is around 155. I'm also a doctors son, and have memorized the PDR. Plus, I was a peer conselour for years, therefor, have a very large practical psychology base. The only things i really lack are the official M.D. title and lack of ability to prescribe medications I know are needed. Night
