Opioids getting the magic back on MMT

I'm now on 130mg/day methadone, been on MMT for about 3 months now. I don't want to keep increasing my dose, but it feels like my dose is no longer sufficient. I stopped having cravings/thoughts once I hit 90mg, and that was good for about 1 month. Then all of a sudden: sleeping trouble, drug dreams, diareha, cravings, needing to stretch my legs etc... So I've been slowly upping my dose but I haven't gotten relief yet. I'm aware I might be looking to be high instead of even, or that I may not know what even feels like, but I'm having real symptoms that shouldn't be there according to the clinic staff. They tell me I shouldn't be thinking about opiates at all, in any way, IF I'm on the appropriate dose. So should I keep going up? Or is it a mental game and if I wait I will eventually even out on such a high dose as 130mg is?

Whoever your therapists are (if MMT even has therapists) full of shit. No chemical has ever taken those strong urges away, when you really wanna get high, it becomes of the most important things to you. I'm only 8 months clean from dope and have little experience with methadone other than means of getting high at a younger age.
I still have drug dreams rarely (can't say how many as i usually forget right after), cravings are still there but i only get like "i need to get high" once every week maybe,
but that's where supportive friends, sleep or whatever come into play.

Methadone should help with the physical part, but the mental part is another game entirely.

Sorry i don't have much advice as i've only taken methadone recreationally, i was on suboxone for almost 2 months, and it did help a lot, but the cravings and extreme urges were still there.

Best of luck though i hope all goes well in the future.

EDIT: desire is a bitch, but it's a passing emotion in this case.

Unfortunately with any daily opioid usage tolerance is ALWAYS going to form and dose titration will be needed until you taper and quit.

Getting back into old hobbies/discovering new passions has helped me more than any maintenance drug. That being said, I love my Suboxone. And the former wouldn't have been all that possible with it.

I mean, you can always potentiate your dose with Tagamet or something. I find whenever I do that I always get that buzz I got the first couple days I was on Suboxone (although iono if it'll work so well for you and your done).

Since I've become passionate about the stuff going on in my life, my self esteem and sense of self worth has drastically improved. I am starting to feel good about what I'm doing with my life, which makes it so much easier to keep pursuing my passions and continuing to increase my quality of life/better myself.

This is not the direct result of my maintenance drug, which on its own could never have had such an effect on my well being. Maybe it would help more to focus not on how you can use your Methadone to increase the quality of your life, but instead on what you do with yourself once you've had your daily dose.

That's what seems to work for me. After being on Suboxone more than 100 days, I rarely have any desire to use. Once in a while I'll have a scary using sort of dream, but that's the worst of it. And even those are infrequent.

-Tripman,

Tolerance is what my doctors and I aattributes the physical issues to. They said though that eventually I will stabalize on a certain dose and be able to come down slowly from there--taper--and do so with minimal w/d's if done correctly. They speak from experience so I believe them, I just wanted a more scientific/theoretical understanding. And also wanted to know if dose increases will ever give me that warm opiate feeling again like they used to. Maybe they don't because going up 10mgs ontop of 50mgs is a bigger percentage increase than 10mgs ontop of 110 or 120mgs...

To everyone else thanks. I was on suboxone for 2 years in the past and your def right about the hobbies etc...

Will tagamet reaally add something to the methadone? Does it need to be taken an hour before the methadone or does that not matter b/c of methadone's long half life? I've read a lot about potentiation but have no firsthand experience with it, so any methadone specific comments are appreciated

This is the biggest problem with most MMClinics in America. People come in with like 20-30mg hydrocodone or percocet 5 addictions
and they go to the clinic and within a month there at like 120mg-170mg when he came in with a 20-30mg HYDROCODONE HABBIT.
Alot of clinics encourage you to keep going on up, cause they know they higher dose your on daily the harder it will be to stop and get off
of it later on down the road. I like 60-80% of people who started Methadone Mantainence didnt really have a huge habit. 35-50mg was plenty to
keep me not being sick and not craving like hell, but what happens is after a week at 40mg, u dont get a high anymore, so you go up 10mg
and then a week goes by and it doesnt give u any buzz anymore, so u go up another ten, then next thing you know you went from eating 5-10 vicodin a day
to a 200mg Methadone HCl habit that is like 20 times bigger literally!!!!
I found when I was on 130mg(im 5' 9" 175) I felt like a zombie, had NO energy and slept 16-20
hours per day everyday. So after I was forced to kick cold turkey off 100mg I had been on everyday for two years for two months when I went back to the clinic I was like lets start at 30 and keep it close to there.
I got down to 20mg but started having some pretty strong cravings to use, and as much as I despise, yes despise the liquid handcuffs(cause in the US its about making money, not helping people who are addicts) I decided to go up and now im at 35 after being in the program roughly 18months.

And just let me say a little something. This MMT has been a long road of falls and lessons. In the beginning I was happy cause I was away from opiates(pills), the dealers, driving without a license to get them, not having to spend like 50-100 bucks a day just for the drug. But after 2 years I realize my methadone clinic is nothing but another neighboorhood opiate dealer, accept the government says its ok for them to sell the state sponsered DOC. I imagine free clinics like the ones in the UK are a lil slower and shittier, but I think there 100% free. Im america, I pay $400 week cash just so im not sick, and it sucks :( some food for thought

are you able to take half your dose in the morning, half at night? it might keep you even all day.

No cants split my dose but wish I could. I do that with my sunday takehome and it makes a world of difference...

And I get what ppl said about a 50mg oxy habit turning into a 200 MMThabit, but I was taking roughly 1200mg of oxy a day, (over 1 gram of oxy). I'd buy 100 80mg oxy's every week like clockwork, so to me, MMT is great. And I'm not zombied out or sleeping away the day--the only thing is I can actually fall asleep at night which is a huge benefit. But everyone and everyone's habits are diff so diff strokes diff folks...

I've been trying the tagament at 400mgs and haven't noticed a diff, yall think 600 is an ok amount to take then?

I as well had a huge habit.. not just pills and I am so thankful for MMT. I am now on 90/day and my cravings and dopesickness are GONE! :D finally. I never thought it would be possible for any drug to take away MY cravings. Methadone has 100%. So providing your not "zombie" like maybe try more. We cannot split doses either but what about carries? Can you eventually get them for the week and split like that? That might be your best shot. I live in Canada and not to rub it in at all, but it's covered (ohip/our taxes)I knew you guys had to pay but I did not know that much! The mane reason I replied to this is to give you a HUGE pat on the back! That amount would have made it sooo much harder to kick! I am wishing you strength and really hope you find your "sweet spot" or get to split everyday.

there is some kind of testing you can do to see if you are going through the methadone way to fast...read about it somewhere here on BL

That is an incredible dose of oxy you used to take my friend. Might I say, and I don't worry otherwise, but you are like an ideal candidate for something like MMT. I mean, when the potential harms of the program do not begin to outweigh the program's potential benefits (I am speaking directly about you in this case).

Anyhoo, yea you might want to try 600mg a little before your dose. Certainly doesn't work for everyone though. I found diphen+tagamet to be better than just tagamet, but if the latter's not working at all for you than I don't know what to say.

i had a $300/day dope habit and went on methadone and i found that 60 mgs held ms just fine and even got me nodding..its ridiculous that people get on MMT and claim that 100 mgs isnt holding them, imo they just want a high or the nods...they keep going up and up and im not sure they realize that if they quit some day, they are in for a shitty ride..when i kicked methadone, it took me months to recover..
