How do you get rid of people who wont take a hint in communal life? just curious. dorms, or couch surfers, people that dont take a hint, etc.

im thinking we could all do a brainstorm list here

I'm lucky to have never had to deal with that for more than a day or two. Even though we have a spare mattress AND a couch.

Honestly though, can you just tell the person you need to get back to work or something? My boyfriend works from home so he can usually just be like "hey, I need to work, get out of here" (ummm in a nicer way lol)

I am interested in what other suggestions people have though.

I would approach the subject in an indirect way initially for example: "So where's your next stop from here?' "Cool, when do you think you'll be heading there?" and say for example they give a date that is a couple of days or one week away; when that date closes in i would bring up the fact there leaving soon.. and if they ask to stay for x amount of days extra i would then tell them "I already have plans and people coming over, as you told me you would be leaving on this day".

For me this is a way to get them to tell you when there leaving without bringing it up abruptly and then use it against them.

That's a nicer way of approaching it.. otherwise i would straight out tell them "I have people coming on x day for x amount of weeks or i have plans and you need to leave by this particular date".

Good luck with that. I lived in a "Party House" for a while in college, and we'd pick up couch surfers sometimes. Every surfer is different, and getting rid of him/her takes a different approach. Sometimes all you need to do is ask. Sometimes you and your roommates gang up on him and make his life there intolerable. Sometimes they go on their own. I don't konw.
