Getting over social phobia and meeting people again?

if you have to get over a fear of being around people it will only happen if you force yourself to be around more people or get a job with lots of social interaction. a talking book is a nice idea but ideally you need to become less sensitive to this fear of others and that will only happen by confronting the problem head on.

sorry but its true- social skills improve with lots of practise. and fear gets less the more you get used to it.

what kind of job have you got/what age are you?

You have to simply be around people more. Get out there. Deal with difficult situations. You get used to it and then you learn from it :)

100% this ^

I've been suffering from social phobia and it's taken me forcing myself to go out to places, especially places where I know no one and trying my hand at interacting with people. It's taken months, and I've has anxiety attack galore, but it has gotten better every time I've gone out. I've gotten to the point where I'm comfortable chatting to strangers though, and was even lucky enough to get someone's number, which is a huge improvement and something I never thought I'd be able to do.

Just start going out with 1 or 2 close friends (or family, just having anyone there can make it much easier) to a pub somewhere. In the beginning you have them to talk to so you don't feel completely alone, but eventually other people will start approaching you to talk and you can go from there.

What do they call someone who...

Can't get any or can't form relationships?

Asexual? Or is that a lack of desire for sex?

Nogamy ?

Celebate?

What?

I'd prefer to think of myself as a wild stallion that can't be tamed.

There's someone out there for everyone, the terms you listed aren't the ones you're thinking of though, but are you talking in a social aspect or in a psychological condition like Aspergers or something?
