I am irish and live in ireland. I recejve 200e a week social welfare and collect 80mg methadone daily in a local pharmacy.

I want to move to a continental country. I speak little spanish and portuguese. I have a lottle experience with methadone provision in switzerland and france.

Does anyone live in spain or portugal and take mthadone?
How hard would it be for me to set up methadone treatment before i move?
Am i entitled to social welfare if i cannot find a job?

Any info greatly appreciated. Im saving money to move im sure i can find work once i do but im mainly concerned with gettjng on methadone and how long would it take.

I could bring 1 or 2 weeks supply of opioids with me or score on the street there.

Sorry if post is not very clear. Any info at all would be a big help.
Thanks in advance.

You can only claim welfare if you’re a citizen or a naturalised citizen (born there or moved and registered as a citizen).

You can’t move to a country and expect them to support you *SNIP*.

Well both ireland and portugal are obviously in the eu so in terms of using portugals healthcare system you dont need to be a permanent resident, which can be acquired after 5 years staying there, when you come from another eu country.

You just need to apply there and need to fulfill various conditions which i believe a specified differently in each country which belongs to the eu.

Im not concerned with welfare i dont expect to be supported

Im just wondering how to go about getting on a methadone clinic/script.

I know methadone is free in portugal and subutex is 40% covered by government but i dont know the process.
