Getting off methadone

I'm 26 and I have lupus, R.A., Fibro, Sjrogrens Syndrome, and degenerative disk disease. I was taking methadone from the methadone clinic, but couldn't afford to go anymore. I 'stock piled' some of my take homes and am now trying to ween myself off of it. I've gotten down to 2-3 mg twice now but both times, the withdrawals have been unbearable (especially with the symptoms from my other illnesses). Any suggestions on how to make the w/d easier?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

hi Starwarskitty, so sorry to hear about all your health issues! and going through withdrawal during all that sounds awful! :(

I'm going to move this over to Basic Drug Discussion, since the content seems to fit better there and you'll get better/quicker responses....

I'm really new here... And I'm not sure where that is since a lot of the topic boxes say BDD. Can u send me a link to the specific forum?

I've done the methadone dance. You will suffer withdrawals from it, theres no avoiding it . The trick is to deal with it as comfortably as you can . If you have the resources to see a doctor, or have access to meds, like benzos, clonodine and some other things, you can make it a little better. I honestly don't think this is a bullet you can dodge. Theres plenty of information around on the internet . I can tell you what happened to me, if you want .

what about taking some mxe to help the w/d? or can u get scripted a short term opiate like dilaudid and try to use that to taper and then do a quick 5 day taper off the methadone when ur dilaudid script runs out?

i find that when coming off a long acting opiate, its best if i switch it up and then use the long acting opiate as a quick taper at the end.
