Getting off Fentanyl with Kratom

A little history first. I was in a car accident almost three years ago and have had neck/back problems since. I have a bulging disc and nerve damage in multiple spots in the C4-6 region. I was initially started on Vicoprofen (which did pretty much nothing for the pain) and since then have migrated up the opioid/opiate ladder through Percocet/Oxycontin/Opana (oxymorphone)/Fentanyl. I had some in betweens like Darvocet and I don't even remember what else. I was put on the Opana by one of my doctors when I said the Percocets I was taking weren't working. I have no idea why he made such a big jump. The Opanas were a little too good and euphoric and I had to make the call to switch to something else because they were definitely not lasting the whole month. I got another doctor to put me on Oxycontin at an equivalent dose to the Opana and I was on that for a while.

The Oxy's were working fine but I lost my insurance and could no longer afford the Oxycontin (since the generic version was discontinued). The doctor moved me to Fentanyl Transdermal Patches since they have that in generic forms and since then have had good pain control with almost zero side effects. It is also a lot more convenient and keeps me from taking that "extra" pill. I haven't abused an Opiate in almost a year.

Ok,.. phew. Hopefully that explains my situation enough. I have been on opiates for what I consider way too long now. I've been trying to get my pain issue fixed and hopefully I can get the needed procedures done in the near future and finally rid myself of this constant pain. I'm trying to think ahead and figure out how I'm going to get off this Fentanyl since I realize the withdrawal is gonna suck. I use a 75 mcg/h patch every 48 hours.

I have had success in getting rid of Oxy withdrawals in the past by using Kratom (when I used to run out of medicine). What I wanted to find out is if anyone on here has ever had to taper off of Fentanyl and if they tried to use Kratom for the withdrawals. I don't care that I'm replacing one addiction with another. If I can transition from Fentanyl to Kratom to a point where I'm completely fine without Fentanyl I can just Cold Turkey the Kratom. Kratom withdrawal is cake.

As soon as my neck/back issue is fixed I want to get off the Fentanyl ASAP. I have read stories online of people tapering the fentanyl at a rate of 25 mcg a month, then moving onto oxies, then lowering those, etc... I don't want to have to make a 6 month plan to taper off the fentanyl. I can't stand this opiate jail anymore and if I had no pain I would start the process this second.

How many different doctors did you have scripting you C2 opiates?!

Anyways, you're not gonna be doing well with that transition...I suggest bupe or methadone.

Also, the doc that went from percocet to oxymorphone should get a swift kick in the nuts.

Only one doctor at a time. I had a transition between doctors when my car insurance company said I was "fine" and cut off payment to the doctor who was prescribing my pain medication. I went in for the visit and he said he can't prescribe me anything more since he can't be my doctor anymore and told me to call my lawyer (that was the day of my refill). I went to my physician since he (the doctor under the car insurance) left me with nothing after putting me on Opana. The physician prescribed the Opana since that's what I was taking and a couple months later I made the decision to "downgrade" to Oxy.

I really don't want to go on Subs or Methadone. I'm hoping that maybe a high extract Kratom would at least make the WD tolerable. That's why I'm looking for someone that has been in my situation (Fentanyl -> Kratom).

And yea, the doctor who put me on Opana after the Percocets is the reason my tolerance is so damn high.

What about codeine?

What about it? Sorry, I'm not being a dick I just don't know what you're asking.

If you're saying codeine instead of Kratom as a way to help withdrawals then yea, I'm interested in how that went.

I can't imagine kratom holding any seriously tolerant user. Past a certain dose the side effects get obscene and very unpleasant (not like opiate side effects). It could take the edge off a little, but it would probably be difficult to notice.

Like the others, I suggest buprenorphine (why go to methadone when you could just stay on fent?). You say you want out of the opioid jail, then go slow. The fast detox's, the quick withdrawal and tough it out techniques aren't nearly as effective for keeping you clean. Take the time to transition back into sober life. It may be harder to do than you think.

christ, fentanyl withdrawal is horrific, and kratom will do NOTHING for you. Luckily, fentanyl w/d is VERY short lived.

Can you get a less potent opiate and taper if you want a short solution? If you don't want to go the maintanance route I'd just convert your dose to oxy or hydro and taper as it would be easier than tapering fentanyl.

I have an awesome doctor that really cares about my pain management (finally!) so I'm sure I can get changed over to Oxys when the time comes. I guess the best idea is to go on that and taper it down till I can replace it with Kratom (like I used to be able to) and then I can just cut it off completely. Damn, I was afraid that Fentanyl straight to Kratom wasn't gonna work.

Also, ingannilo, I'm not worried about going back to it for the high, I haven't been high off of opiates in a good while, the fentanyl just keeps me pain free. So if I did just cut off Fentanyl and got through the physical side effects I think I would be fine without having to worry about "getting tempted".

How much Fent are you taking?

I may have misread, or overlooked, but I didn't see how much fent you are taking. I have quit Fent without tapering (due to my dr. 'forgetting' to refill my script) at doses of 50mcg/ every two days. I know it's not a high high amount, and quitting like that was super lame for like 2-3 days, but I did have some vikes to take to help me through it. I can only imagine that quitting totally cold turkey would totally blow. Suggestion: Kratom may not be the best thing, but it's gotta be better than nothing, right. W/D for me lasted 2-3 days....find a little help to east the pain and soothe the hurt, man.

Hey, I said the amount in the first post, it's 75mcg/h every 48 hours (2 days like you). How much vicodin were you taking during the WD?

Man... I'm reading information online about people saying how horrible WD is. I don't know what it is but in the last couple of weeks I just got so tired of being reliant on opiates. I just want off them. Fucking car accident. ugh...

You'll need a opiate with a real high affinity, like Suboxone. Perhaps some Lyrica with it.. Lyrica really helped me.
