A little history first. I was in a car accident almost three years ago and have had neck/back problems since. I have a bulging disc and nerve damage in multiple spots in the C4-6 region. I was initially started on Vicoprofen (which did pretty much nothing for the pain) and since then have migrated up the opioid/opiate ladder through Percocet/Oxycontin/Opana (oxymorphone)/Fentanyl. I had some in betweens like Darvocet and I don't even remember what else. I was put on the Opana by one of my doctors when I said the Percocets I was taking weren't working. I have no idea why he made such a big jump. The Opanas were a little too good and euphoric and I had to make the call to switch to something else because they were definitely not lasting the whole month. I got another doctor to put me on Oxycontin at an equivalent dose to the Opana and I was on that for a while.
The Oxy's were working fine but I lost my insurance and could no longer afford the Oxycontin (since the generic version was discontinued). The doctor moved me to Fentanyl Transdermal Patches since they have that in generic forms and since then have had good pain control with almost zero side effects. It is also a lot more convenient and keeps me from taking that "extra" pill. I haven't abused an Opiate in almost a year.
Ok,.. phew. Hopefully that explains my situation enough. I have been on opiates for what I consider way too long now. I've been trying to get my pain issue fixed and hopefully I can get the needed procedures done in the near future and finally rid myself of this constant pain. I'm trying to think ahead and figure out how I'm going to get off this Fentanyl since I realize the withdrawal is gonna suck. I use a 75 mcg/h patch every 48 hours.
I have had success in getting rid of Oxy withdrawals in the past by using Kratom (when I used to run out of medicine). What I wanted to find out is if anyone on here has ever had to taper off of Fentanyl and if they tried to use Kratom for the withdrawals. I don't care that I'm replacing one addiction with another. If I can transition from Fentanyl to Kratom to a point where I'm completely fine without Fentanyl I can just Cold Turkey the Kratom. Kratom withdrawal is cake.
As soon as my neck/back issue is fixed I want to get off the Fentanyl ASAP. I have read stories online of people tapering the fentanyl at a rate of 25 mcg a month, then moving onto oxies, then lowering those, etc... I don't want to have to make a 6 month plan to taper off the fentanyl. I can't stand this opiate jail anymore and if I had no pain I would start the process this second.
