Getting off Diazepam

I've been taking diazepam for the past 2 years now. I usually dose at 20 mg every day. However, for things that cause me great anxiety (e.g. public speeches) I need AT LEAST 180 mg. Do you think if I suddenly stop taking diazepam I'll experience some withdrawal symptoms. To be honest I'm rather worried about withdrawal effects.

I am on 4mg in the morning and bedtime so 8mg total.

I was on 15mg a day.

Trust me you will 100% go through withdrawal.

Its not like lyrica, where some may get it and some might not, you will.

Taper down and speak to your doctor.

Switch to prazepam if it's available for tapering. Imo it's the best benzo for tapering, and an easy switch when ur coming from diazepam as it's an active metabolite of diazepam.

Anyway, to help you taper diazepam; you could get the 5mg diazepam tabs or the TEVA brand 10mg pills (that allow u to break them in 4 pieces) and taper 2,5mg at a time. I'd definitely NOT go cold turkey. This could be dangerous as it can cause tonic-clonic seizure..

If you can get prazepam, you can get the tablets and the liquid formulation. Start by taking about double the amount of diazepam you're currently taking, and u can easily taper 5mg at a time once u adjusted at first. When you get to 15ish mg it'll be a little harder, you could use the liquid formulation to taper this if you like to take it slow. As 1 drop = 1mg, which makes it ideal for tapering the final bits. Imo prazepam should be the golden standard for tapering instead of diazepam. Underrated benzo IMO, and not very widely used either unfortunately.

I was on it for just over a month and had Wd's, so you will most defintly be a full blown addict after 2 years use. Go to tell your doctor get put on taper and dont even think about Cold Turkey lol totally not worth it

I think it would be worth a try to consult a naturopathic physician, and see if they can recommend other agents than GABAergics(nervines, etc), as you don't particularly want to set yourself back after going through all that hell.

Even the lovely withdrawal drugs like gabapentin could prevent the brain rebalancing itself to some extent, I do believe, so unless things are really unbearable, try to stay strong.

Shit, if you can manage to taper and get off benzos you've pretty much passed one of the hardest trials you can go through in life, so don't fuck it up!
