getting memantine from your doctor?

Has anyone had success with that without having Alzheimer's? I tried asking my doctor for it saying that my memory has been pretty bad and telling her I was doing research on nootropics and found out about memantine but she wouldn't give it to me. Then again, she does know I had addiction issues so there's that.
