My ds is 3 and we've run out of his albuterol nebulizers. We do have the metered dose inhalers and a couple types of spacers, one even has a mask. I let him play with it and it whistles so he seemed to do well with it. Well tonight he will not use it and is wheezing very badly. I know he will use the nebulizer. What I did was take the inhaler and hold it under a small amount of saline while depressing the canister, causing it to bubble/ swish but I kept it contained.
I am hoping it caught the medication. I then put it into his nebulizer and he did well breathing it. The solution smelled like what the usual does.
He seems much better too. However, that could be from breathing the moist air.
Does anyone know enough chemistry or what have you to tell me if what I did was effective? Did I "catch" the medicine that way or not? I am not trying to be a McGuyver here, but I need a fix before I can get the other medicine tomorrow.
