Getting high from smoking HIV drugs in South Africa

Yeah, because LSD would substitute in any way. They like it because it's euphoric. LSD may result in euphoric experiences, but on the whole it's relatively neutral in this respect.

Methaqualone, despite not being hallucinogenic, would probably substitute just fine. We need to increase the flow of mandrax to keep people from abusing an HIV drug with huge demand and not nearly enough supply.

I was just making light of a terrible situation. Its terrible these "middle class" kids are abusing what might be a life extending treatment for the poverty stricken people of africa. Something tells me this comes down to simple economics the AIDS patients who get the drugs for free or close to it are selling it in order to get money to feed and shelter themselves. It seems to me that if the rest of the world wants to help Africa we need to find a way to fight the poverty that seems to be the root cause of these problems.
 
Damn man, some desperate times call for drastic measures I suppose. Smoking HIV medicine though? Damn man, I feel at a loss for words on this one man. What a shame...
 
Indeed, little could be worse, bar, perhaps, jenkum. Extending an HIV epidemic, however, doesn't seem like an acceptable alternative.

Or are they just doing whatever it takes to get 'outside' of their day to day trauma. This is South Africa. Not some wealthy nation that has access to accurate information or even access to more suitable substitutes.

These 'idiots' are doing EXACTLY like you or I would do if we were to switch geographic and environmental places with them. Its apparently more accessible than what WE can acquire and, keep in mind, this is a VERY poor country for the majority

Wow, that's wild. HIV meds and rat poison. I was leaning towards that being media hyperbole, but I guess not.

I actually just watched this documentary a few days ago and it was a crazy video, a must watch IMO. Cutting heroin with rat poison and HIV medicine and shit, that's fucked. It was interesting though to see the host take 1 and a half of the HIV pills and trip a bit, I never would of thought that an HIV medicine would be in any way psychedelic, you learn new thinks every day I guess.

Sad, but poverty creates all kinds of weird forms of escapism.
What I found particularly interesting was how articulate (if not formally educated) the users interviewed seemed to be - assuming that the interviewees were all legit and not some kind of re-enactment.
The woman that points out that 'the Sun' (i think?) is a Tabloid newspaper - she's no fool.

I'm not sure how I feel about Vice more generally (that's a totally different conversation heh) - but I quite enjoy Hamilton Morris' pieces.
I believe he is a Bluelighter too, if I'm not mistaken? Probably not too keen to out himself though...which is fair enough.
