Opioids Getting a tattoo on opiates

KPZ; said:
Thanks for all the info

I have 1 tattoo that I got when I was 18, a cross on my forearm

tomorrow I am going in for a tattoo on my chest, getting "Filius Deorum" in Old English.. translates to "God's Son"

I think I am going to take a couple of my prescribed anxiety pills and 20mg of a 30mg roxy.

I am expecting the pain. But it will be worth it in the end.

My toes hurt the worst... And I was holding my breath so almost passed out, when I stood up when finished. Muscle relaxers or anxiety meds are a must, in my opinion. The rest of it depends on your pain threshold and what you have available. Good luck!

I don't think taking painkillers helps with the feeling of tattoos at all. I have a pretty low pain threshold and I've had tattoos done across the backbone, ribs, etc, and all it felt like was tickling/scratching.

I have a bit of tattoos, and I've been on opiates for nearly all of them (hydro, percs, oxy.) They help to relax you and help with the pain afterward, but there's no way to make it painless during. It's not too bad, anyway... I find a muscle relaxer helps more than anything.

I've got a couple of tattoos - one on my inner forearm, and one on my upper arm. Both I got done while completely sober, although my pain threshold is pretty high anyway. I'd recommend getting them done sober. For most people the pain isn't too bad.

I'm all about getting tattoos sober - the pain is part of the fun. Actually, it's the endorphins and adrenaline that are fun, but those come from the pain. After a tattoo I am SO high on my body's natural pain-killers. I'd hate to take some oxy before a tat and not get the `tat high.`

But the OP said they are a daily user, so they are going to take it anyway. Which should be fine.

I've gotten the two tattoos I have done sober. It hurts like a bitch, but it should considering it's something you're going to have on your body forever. I feel like pot makes me feel more of whatever is going on...if it's hot out, I feel hotter, if it's cold, I feel colder, etc so I'd definitely stay away from that. I tend to get very lightheaded and feel like I'm going to pass out, and I would think if you aren't a daily opiate user, that might make it worse...just my opinion though.

Oh for fucks sake, who cares about your jesus freak tats. Pop some pills and get it done if that's what you want to do.

OP getting tattooed on opiates is an interesting experience for a different reason.. the sensation is interesting. I enjoy the feeling of getting tattooed.. add opiates and its different but in a good way.. It doesn't "dull the pain".. just changes it.

It hurts no matter if you are drunk(done it) sober(done it) or on opiates(done it).
However, for me, when I took some benzo's it did help me tolerate the pain much better.

Don't be falling over asleep though...that would not be good for the tattoo artist! :)

For my last tattoo I took a decent dose of morphine beforehand. My friend, who is covered from top of head , through face, down the neck...etc past belly button... most definitely gets his tattoos (not all but some) while under the influence of 'anything'. He is an alcoholic- obviously this is a horrible thing for getting tats (for the reasons stated above). Thus, he switches substances for this occasion.

I am pretty sure that it's okay ('okay' meaning no likelihood to bleed out, etc) to take opiates for the purpose of comfort during getting a tattoo ;).

POST EDIT:
I just read the comment/s above mine. - Obviously be smart about it. Don't get fucked up or anything. Take an intelligent dose, just enough for you to be 'calm'. Hell, if that's all you're concerned about take a valium or any other benzo (in small doses)- are benzos a bad choice? This I don't know. Well, just take a hydrocodone (if you're not big into opiates) or two and you should be fine. (adjust to fit your tolerance ;) )

Like everyone else has said there is not much you can do about the pain.

I recently got a tattoo during opiate withdrawal and it hurt much more than I expected. However it does temporarily soothe the withdrawals because of the endorphins release from the pain of the needle. This is just my opinion though.
I have gotten inked before I ever had a monkey on my back and it hurt much less! I have also gotten inked while high on opiates, and I will say on a fairly large dose I began to nod off and the artist had to wake me up! He definitely knew something was up, and after the appointment I traded him a couple oc80s and didn't even have to pay for the tat... This was like a 4-500 dollar tattoo too!

Tattoos aren't all that painful. I find that a muscle relaxer/anxiety med will help you the most. I've taken hydrocodone and oxycodone with some, but good old valium helped the most. Oh, and ice water breaks.

And yeah, you'll get a ton of endorphins going, so don't worry. It's a neat, very transformative experience and I think you lose something if you go into it completely off your tits.

Tattoos are supposed to hurt, it's part of the ritual. If it's just because you're afraid of the pain I suggest you take nothing and really dive into the experience. However I've gotten some of my stuff done while high on morphine (I'm a junkie) without any adverse effects.

But I highly suggest you get your money's worth and enjoy the experience without!

I banged a .5 gram of H right before my rib tattoo which took 3 hours, and I did not touch the pain at all. I have tattoos on both sides of ribs and I got 1 on H and one Sober and they felt the same.

Now if you injected Lidocane into the area that would make it pain free prob.
