Getting a refill on cough syrup or Tussionex

Hi-

I was recently diagnosed with strep throat 3 weeks ago and prescribed Tussionex (1 teaspoon every 12 hours in a 4oz bottle). This past week I went back in because my cough got worse and my doctor diagnosed me with bronchitis and gave me promethazine/codeine because I hated how Tussionex tasted and made me feel nauseous.

My bronchitis hasn't gotten better so they switched my antibiotics but I'm still on the promethazine/codeine and I absolutely hate it due to it making me sleep 24/7.

I want to contact my doctor and ask for a refill on the previous Tussionex even though it made me feel bad because it seemed to be the only one that worked and let me go about my day.

Would I be able to get a refill on that even though they recently prescribed me it and the promethazine/codeine in such a short period?? Or would my doctor think I'm an addict/the pharmacy refuse to fill and flag me?

No one can say for sure, but unless someone already has a history of abuse of them, most pharmacists are a bit more understanding with refilling or people switching to different cough preparations. Tussionex, however recently became a C-II and is not allowed to be refillable. The doctor would have to write a new script on transmit it electronically if he is set up to do so. The change in scheduling may also lead to more scrutiny, but you are sick. The doctor is aware, the pharmacist is aware, and as long as you arent known as an abuser, you should be ok.
