Get a medical card?

Hey. I just moved to Los Angeles and I grew up in Dallas, Texas so shit is a lil bit different! I have only lived her a few weeks but one thing that is different right off the bat is the pot.

First of all schwag does not exist here.. I'm sure you know that though.

Anyway at the club in the cigarette area a guy was handing out bud and i casually asking him for some and he acted offended or scared. This must have been because he was giving to someone with a medical card. I know there are disadvanteges though to getting a med card and I really dont even need one since I smoke often anyway but..

A dispensery and just the thought of it makes my mouth water! Maybe the right to bare arms is worth giving up for this!

Any thoughts?
 
i think the main disadvantage is being sick enough to get one, but cali will give you a recomendation for a cough, and a bit of depression lol.

i believe in cali anything under an ounce is basicaly ignored, but 1oz+ is a freakin felony?!? even in texas 2 oz's is a felony, or is it a qp? i forget now.

the place in WA i got my recomendation from gave me a script for marinol as well, incase of job, dshs, probation issues. they also will go to court and testify on your part, with an attorney or two, and a physcian as a profesional witness.

THCF seems to be heading down the wrong road with their approach to medical credibility and medical marijuana, there are plenty of clinics.

the right to grow your own is unsurpassable though.


no schwag up here either, it was strange, some people act like im exagerating when i try and tell them what shwag is...
 
the costs involved here in oregon were about $250.00 to get legal . the cost elsewhere would be something to be considered .
it appears that it is a situation where "if there's a will-there's a way" in the 13 or so states where it has a medical legacy .

as far as the medical card goes. i'd get one in a heartbeat if i was you, but im sure u can find bud w/o one.

when i was in HS me n my buddies would wait for someone to walk into the liqour store, if they looked kool we'd aqsk em to buy us something. if u cant find ne bud then maybe do the same thing. but id just get the card if i was you. anyways man take care

In TX 2oz or less is a class a misdameanor and 4 oz or less is a class b missdameanor

so yea u can have a QP in tx n its still a Missy Missdameanor Elliot
 
the guy probably thought you were a narc or something. dispensaries already have enough heat on them without doing anything illegal, so paranoia isnt uncommon.

but yea man you can get your card for insomnia, chronic pain, migraines, lack of appetite, anxiety, and a handful of other reasons. most sites will have a list of eligible ailments. its pretty easy, and then you can smoke weed legally.

and schwag exist EVERYWHERE. california is not an exception. just depends on who you know.
 
^ Many jobs will discriminate against MMJ users (denying them jobs), also many doctors do not recognize it as a viable option and discriminate against MMJ patients.
 
The cops here in L.A. are total dicks.. They are so agressive and beak so many rules! For example, the other night in hollywood we got a little lost and this cop followed us with his headlights off! He could have fucking killed someone what an idiot! Shit I thought texas cops were dicks they have nothing on cali cops..

Yeah there looks like quite a bit of disadvantages to getting a medical card but walking into a dispensery would make it all worth it.

Is this really a disadvantage? Seems a bit of a moot point as if you tested positive for marijuana and didn't have a MMJ card you'd still get fired.
 
some clinics, like the one i went with, will give you a script for marinol, but your employer can still drop you if they want even with that.

as far as discrimination, i have encountered it, i had a doc not want to take me on for opioid mantainence because he said that "opoioids and marinol are contraindicative" whaaaat? lol. wow, that would mean a good portion of the worlds populatipon should drop dead any moment.... but, no, still hasnt happened.

i have also heard that mmj is for people who want an excuse to get high, as the doc adjusts my dilauded drip. no, my body is eating its self alive thinking it is defending its self, and marijuana helps more for that, and much more, a lot more then the thousand dollar shots i give myself...

but, then a drug/acohol counselor, and therapist i saw/see recomended it to me?!?
 
All I'm saying is a MMJ card won't protect you from something like that, so that might be viewed as a disadvantage.
 
I live in SF so I can only confidently speak about MMJ in this city. I just re-read my post, and I've listed mostly advantages. But that's what came to mind.

- Getting a card is simple. Migraines, lower back pain. If you're female: cramps. You're in and out of those doctors' offices within 5 min.

Ask your friends for recommendations to the doctors who offer consultations for the lowest fees. Otherwise, call around.

- About half of my friends have a card and some of them work for the city/county/state. They also have their regular connects who might supply them with particular strains or organic outdoor grown in a specific terroir, etc.

Some of this product does make it to some of the LA clubs. Couriers drive up North to get it (Mendocino, Humboldt). Nice service for some of the growers who have been working hard and honing their craft for a couple of decades. You might not form connections with these people nowadays but you can still get their product with a card.

- The dispensaries are extremely convenient. They deliver and will usually include a free edible with a purchase, even if it's only an 1/8th. I like delivery. And most of the delivery people are friendly and really cute. (Good part-time job, up here at least.)

It's also nice to pick up edibles that are pre-made for you and contain a measured dose. Plus, they sell a wide range. I'm sure you've looked at some of the online menus of certain clubs so you have a good idea of what's available.

Not sure if you're from Europe, but the hash is ok IMO. It does the job but it's not classic, dark, spicy N. African, Mediterranean hash. I wish we could get that here. What I've seen is either Bubble or finger hash. No imports yet.

- I don't know anyone who's had a problem with LE or their employers, including visibly punk or hip-hop friends who are late-teens, early-20s and who would be pulled over in any small town. I have friends on MMT but I don't think they use cards. I will ask them about that.

- Last thought: don't carry more than an ounce on you and you won't have any trouble in SF.

The way I look at it…reindeer poop scooperit's California. MMJ is one of the good things about the state that balances out the insane rents, impossible house prices and ludicrous cost of living.

I think the card is worth your $100 investment. There are some conscientious growers who've been growing very good strains since the 80s and their product has been outclassed by some of what's available in clubs. Then add the variety. But don't assume that all club weed will be better than what you can get from a good connect. Brand names are over-rated sometimes.
