I haven't found any posts on this that had anything conclusive, so I'm going to post it here.
SWIM doesn't have any money or really any access to anything, except for a bottle of Germ-X sanitizer. I told swim that they probably shouldn't ingest any of it because I don't know if the other inactive ingredients (Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Benzophenone-4, Fragrance, Glycerin, Tocopherol, Water) are toxic (well I know water isn't :P). I also told swim since there wasn't any isopropyl alcohol in it like Purell, it's probably not AS toxic as Purell, but I needed to find out for sure.

I was wondering if you guys could help shine a light on this topic and give me some answers :)

Yes, I am serious, and I also figured that he's not the only one in the world that has thought of doing it so I might as well get some answers as if it's toxic or not, and/or what level it is toxic... Not of if it's stupid or not, I thought Bluelight was for education not for judgment.

I'm sorry, but here on Bluelight, we have reasons on saying that stuff is indeed "stupid."

If it was really not harmful anyway, we would have told you this was pretty dumb just by what the product was meant for.

I recently saw an Intervention episode about an alcoholic who OD'd and when he was stuck in the hospital and in withdrawal he drank the hand sanitizer to stop his withdrawals.
WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU DRINK HAND SANITIZER? You could easily just tell a doctor that you are in withdrawal and they would provide you with something MUCH safer!

Like the many posts above state, tell swim not to do this... if he is in withdrawal (or that desperate,) he needs to get to an ER, not drink hand sanitizer for relief. Otherwise, tell him to wait until he can get some real liquor (not that that is any better in my opinion, but to each his own.)

You guys are being really harsh. Bluelight should be a place where people can ask whatever they want without fear of judgement. When you consider all the toxic shit in cigarettes that millions of people inhale daily, it's really not THAT offensive an idea. Cmon guys, play nice.

As_The_Rush_Comes, I'd have to agree that it's a very bad idea. There's no telling what the damage could be from that. There are other legal OTC substances (Nitrous, DXM, codeine, even benadryl or pseudoephedrine) that are more worthwhile and safer.

BTW, does your name come from the Motorcycle/G&D song? =)

It's really not harsh at all, considering "Harm reduction."
The thing is that you can't OD on cigarettes, but you can on hand sanitizer. I'm not talking about the ethanol in it, I'm talking about the other shit in there that is just unthinkable to put in your body, that is waaaaayyyyy more toxic than the alcohol itself.

Yeah, I know, it's undoubtedly a stupid idea, I 100% agree with you. But there's a nice way to let someone know they're doing something stupid, lol. Though, I guess it's true that the blunt way may drive the point across better, which ultimately IS better for harm reduction purposes. I just don't want the guy to feel unwelcome here, because I feel like BL is a place for anybody that wants to come, even those with very toxic ideas, lol. %)

Of course dude, everyone's welcome. (Even haters) LOL

There has been dumber stuff than this floating around, and I'm sure he got the drift that it was a foul thing to do, even in desperation. In no way is anyone trying to drive someone off. Even if we didn't tell him like we (I) did, people would yet still do these things anyway to top it all off.

Thanks you guys for understanding, and swim ended up jacking a bottle and not getting caught, lucky for him, I haven't stolen in years, it scares me lol.
And I have one last question for y'all, if all the other shit is what's toxic, then there must be a way to evap the ethanol from the gel to get it pure, right?

I mean even when you ferment acohol from grapes etc it's ethanol and methanol and the methanol is toxic, then you distill it and it's drinkable.

And JoshuaV, yes, my name is from that song, I like the remake by Tiesto the best but the original is bomb too :)

No, distillation from grapes does not contain methanol.

There are two ways a spirit has methanol in it:

1- It was purposely put there for people like your friend, so it can't be consumed without critically sickening you.

2- The still you used was over a wood fire, the still is copper, and the heat was not controlled properly and exposed the spirit to wood smoke. Giving rise to the reaction of CO2 and Hydrogen to make ethanol. Also it is produced in the tiniest amounts from bacteria.

Yes, I've seen many accounts of that, but I'm not talking about a child, I'm talking about an adult male.
