I was diagnosed with pneumonia around 6 days ago, have finished my antibiotics and am feeling better. I still cough up mucus from time to time, but was wondering if there are any risks taking a recreational dose of oxycodone. I'm not an addict, and the pneumonia was not caused by opiate use. Are there any dangers here? I read somewhere about possible pulmonary edema, but wasn't sure if that applied to this situation. Any help is appreciated.

Yeah not planning on snorting, if I just eat them could the depressive effects have any negative consequences

Opiates will lower your immune response and have been specifically implicated in increase of pulmonary disease before. Let me see if I can pull up a source.

A relationship between opiate abuse and infectious
diseases has been established (Lange et al., 1989).
Pulmonary diseases caused by Haemophilus,
Streptococcus, Staphylococcus and Mycobacterium are
the most common diagnoses of opiate abusers (Rishdahl,
1996).lymphocyte proliferation.
...
Opiates appear to affect the immune response directly
through opiod receptors on immune cells and indirectly
via the receptors on neuronal cells (Mc Carthy et al.,
2001). Opiates play important roles in increased suscepti-
bility to infection by altering the release of hypothalamus
pituitary adrenal (HPA) hormones (Allolio et al., 1987).
These hormones in turn alter glucocorticoids (Boumpas
et al., 1993).

That being said you will probably be fine.

^Interesting. The 3 years I was(am) dependent on opiates I never got a cold or bronchitis. Granted I did get cancer, but unlikely due to opiate use..

If you take your oxycodone orally, I doubt it will pose any serious risk, especially if you are not a chronic user. Insufflating your pills, on the other hand, could cause unneeded irritation especially if you are just getting over a sickness. Orally would be better in my opinion. You should be fine.
