Questions Concering My Sleep Meds?????

I am using generic ambien CR(:p) for sleep. But the regular ambien works better for me rather than tartrate control in the ambien CR. Is there any type of coating that releases the zolpidem tartrate slowly that i can suck off of the pill to make it to regular zolpidem without the tartrate control release?:?

I know I have heard other opiate users ussing OxyContin and sucking the coating off and by doing that, it removes the control release (tartrate) of the Oxy. Ambien make two types which are Ambien and Ambien CR. So basically what Im asking is. Can I convert my ambien CR to a regular ambien:):) that works better for me? =D

:) Ambien=Zolpidem
:p Ambien CR=Zolpidem Tartrate

Actually if I'm correct then both the IR and CR are the same chemical(Zolpidem tartrate). And I'm also pretty sure that oxycontin isn't a tartrate. Pulled this off the official website and I might be correct.

FDA-approved AMBIEN ( zolpidem tartrate or generic AMBIEN) has one layer to help you fall asleep, and is approved for short-term use. AMBIEN CR has two layers. The first layer dissolves quickly to help you fall asleep fast, while the second dissolves slowly to help you stay asleep, so you can wake up ready for your day.* AMBIEN CR can also be taken for as long as your healthcare professional recommends.

So it seems the only difference is the release coating mechanism. While I never dealt directly with Ambien CR, I do believe the time release can be defeated if you completely crush the pill just like nearly(Not all) other pills.

Yeah, just crush or chew and then swallow. Tartrate has nothing to do with with the extended release, it is just a form of the active chemical (zolpidem)

Like others have said tartrate has nothing to do with the time release, its the same chemical in both versions of the pill. Try crushing it and see if that helps

"Tartrate" has nothing to do with the controlled release of a drug. Thats just part of the chemical name for Ambien. For instance, OxyContin is not Oxycodone HCL Tartrate, simply just Oxycodone HCL, in controlled release and immediate release formulations. You can break the controlled release in the same fashion that you would OxyContin. Just crush it.

Just crush and parachute it if you want it to be instant release.

P.S. Regular ambien is tartrate too.

Ambien CR has two layers. The first layer is like regular ambien and the second layer is slow release. You will get just as "high" off or CR. I personally like it better than the regular ambien.

I disagree. If you bypass the control release then ya you will just get as high as the IR. However, if you take the CR without crushing them up you will not get the same high as the IR. And from my experience, you will sleep forever..

IR 10 mg > CR 12.5 mg

I just snapped mine in half and then swallowed. It hit me more quickly and I thought it might be more soluble in stomach acid, because I know some pills are coated with something that'll only break down in lower or higher acidic liquids (depending on the type of coating) so that way they can control where it's released (i.e. intestines or stomach).

I highly recommend crushing them because IME i just popped 2 down the hatch and all it did was make me tired and weak. I would not consider that a "high" at all. It made me relax and thats about it, other than that i had to fight to stay awake.
