Generic Advice to an Old Friend

I think of you, way out there old friend
Trying to find your direction in life,
Wondering if this whole thing is one big mistake
Not knowing anyone except the one person you want to get away from
I think of you,
and wish that you could find that one thing
That is destined to make you happy in this life
I wish my advice wasn't so damn generic
Because i've been there,
and all those cut-and-dry black-and-white answers
were not what i needed to hear.
I needed to hear someone tell me to get the hell over all my problems,
All the trivial things in my life
That i spent way too much time obsessing on
To forget about the people who made me so miserable
And that it was ok if the only person who listened to me
Was myself.
I needed to hear someone say that tomorrow is whatever i want it to be
I didn't need one more person to say "It will be all right in the end"
What do they know
Tomorrow can be the day that it all starts coming together...
You have to find a place that feels like home.
And i know you don't have that, out there.
You are lost, and uncertain
And my hopping on a jet to cross the many miles and reassure you
Is not what you need either
Maybe what you need is a one-way ticket to somewhere,
Somewhere where she is not
So she can have all the time she wants to follow her dreams,
And for the first time since you met her,
You can follow a few of yours.
I never lost faith in you
Even though i lost touch with you.
I accepted the fact that you and i
belong to two distant worlds
And that a cup of coffee shared late-night at some cafe
Will not solve either of our problems
Only allow us to push them aside for a night
But don't forget that on your quest for success,
That you need to find something that makes you happy.
Success isn't a paycheck, or a title
It's a sense of completion
I think you have it all in you
To conquer these little minute things
And to make it... without her, without anyone.
And when you least expect it,
Some lucky girl will steal your heart,
And put stars in your eyes just like she did
a long time ago...
But that person will be proud of you
And will love your art
And will be your best friend and biggest fan
in all that you do.
And you shouldn't settle for anything less.
Dear friend, and you know who you are, you ought to browse the Life forum... it might give you a lot of answers you are searching for. They are very supportive and motivational over there. And read "The Awakening" which i posted the link to at the top of this forum.

Just don't forget - it may not solve anyone's problems, but having that person to sip coffee with in an all night cafe is one of the most important things that I can think of.
Your friends are lucky to have you, as I am lucky to know you.

Your writing is so amazing, so many times I have sat infront of this computer and just thought to myself about what you have said sometimes not saying anything back but this time i cant help by reply...sometimes we forgot there are others out there that feel alike... because for some reason in the midst of those feelings you always think your alone and your not ... Thanks

Wow E-girl, the first three quarters of this could have been written for me ;)
Once again you have been able to hit a soft spot and relate directly with your words.
Good work :)

"success isn't a paycheck, or a title, it's a sense of completion" - "And you shouldn't settle for anything less."
Thanks
