I think you pretty much laid it out.I agree.Personally, I don't do FB.
 
^^ I think its stupid, i see a few people post things like that and its just attention whores a lot of them never even were addicts they have just decided to abstain from using. Also, i dont like announcing to the world my problems or that i was an addict because my FB is mostly used to keep in touch with my family in Alaska and I would be ashamed to post something like that.

I never post though it feels so self absorbed and narcassitic, like why does anyone care about what Im doing or my opinions on something? They dont. And since my FB is used for my family, a lot of them already know whats going on in my life, at least the ones that need to know, know.

Its pretty funny though because the people that always post vague lyrics about their relationship or post childish things are the ones who always say facebook isnt for airing out dirty laundry etc. My opinion about someone changes if they post their relationship drama.
 
I completely agree especially with your 2 middle paragraphs. I barely post anything as well and just use it to stay in touch with certain people who I'm not on a level of friendship where I would call or text them out of the blue.

Can't stand people who are only satisfied if they get lots of likes and if they don't they will remove the post or picture.
 
^^Yeah I totally agree. Some people on FB are just extreme attention whores and it's fucking retarded. Like the people who have quotes along the lines of, "wow people are crazy but I guess haters are gonna hate" or other stupid posts that purposely vague and clearly are looking for people to respond asking what they're talking about. I find that shit annoying.

As for sobriety posts, announcing your 30 days clean does seem pretty silly seeing as that just isn't much time to be clean. It goes to show that a lot of people stay clean for a few weeks and are naive enough to think they've magically cured themselves of addiction. Bitches be crazy

I don't even have a Facebook. I think the whole thing in general is stupid, but that's a whole nother topic. Unless used for business, music, or art, shit like that. Then it can be a useful brand awareness and marketing tool.

I have it, but I keep it real private. I actually just closed it down, like not completely, just deactivated the fucker. But then I said fuck it, because there is a handful of old friends I basically only keep in touch with through facebook. But aside from those few people I am almost never using it, just consistently blocking people off the feed for the idiotic or self absorbed garbage.

Shit is kind of scary, people put way too much info on their facebooks. I legit was able to identify a person on facebook from the information they provided about themselves on this site. Granted, that person was a moron who divulged way too much info about themselves. And I don't doubt it would take just 1 guess for a lot of you to figure out who it was.

And it definitely has its uses for marketing and business relations. I have a friend who seems to use it well for a few of his ventures, he is real entrepreneurial, still hasn't hit it big with anything yet, but he always has these side projects with random business ideas to accompany his regualr job, I am sure he makes a decent amount of extra money on the side.

Yeah for business it can be great. I work in the marketing field , which these days has to consist of social media marketing, facebook being one of the big outlets, and I've seen very large increases in sales and brand awareness from social media campaigns.

Yea I think it's pretty stupid. I saw some girl posting about that and when someone commented on being clean too she called them out saying how they are still being prescribed oxy and that they don't think the pill bottle says 'crush and sniff' on the instructions.

Then they start posting the serenity prayer, and say other recovery type stuff like 'ive gotta get out of my own head,' or 'alone with my thoughts is a bad place to be' at which time other 12 steppers jump in saying to call someone or go to a meeting, all the while I'm thinking about how they are isolating themselves from everyone that isn't in recovery.

I agree, Effect. Personally, I'd keep that kind of news 'in house,' family, close friends. Especially in the early stages of recovery. It'd suck to explain to someone, who last knew that you had 90 days clean, why you passed out into your french onion soup.
 
25th hour is such a great movie! The ending really ripped my heart out the first time I saw it.

On a related note I just got done spending a day in the city jail. Got way to doped up in public and ended up getting popped for misdiminor (sp?) paraphenailia. Which was an unused needle. I was way to fucking high kinda emberassing honestly. I was lucky my parents bailed me out. It was only a thousand dollar bond but I got like no money so I would have sat there until god knows when. It wasn't the worst experience but it wasn't the most fun either. I did avoid kicking in there don't think that would have been fun.
 
Ha..... Yeah, barely use Facebook. I actually have a fake account setup under somebody else. I use another birth date but it is somebody's pictures and name changed slightly. I use it to talk to people on anonymous forum sites. I know it's kinda fawked but it has helped with networking and carrying on conversations with those I don't know. I think I have actually used it to talk to somebody on this site. I am kinda paranoid of anybody ever finding out information about me from the internet.

I am very proud to say you can find very little about me on the internet and what you can find portrays me as a hardworking family man, not that this is very far from the truth but any prospective employers doing any research on my name are only going to find the wholesome whitewashed image. I never post clean time on this Facebook because that is for friends and family. I have three accounts on Facebook. One account is my real name and information for family and friends, most of which are those who I don't see and only keep in touch with thru FB. I have another account under a nick name that only my druggy buddies use and then I have the fake account.

I also am very modest and a gentleman so I don't like to kiss and tell or talk about the vagina but I am a man and sometimes information spills out because of my enthusiasm. An example would be my comment " I would rather get layed to the smiths than salsa by myself" but that was mostly because my cousin was taking the piss with me for listening to "this gay music" to which I had to point out that I was in fact the one who was entertaining a lady friend. So if that is gay than call me RuPaul.

How so? I dont even post, just use the to messenger to talk with my extended family, mostly my grandma because shes deaf and impossible to talk on the phone with,.exactly how is that what i described? Not bein a dick, just enlighten me.

If youre referring to me posting on bluelight, which Im not sure because your post is pretty vague, this is a forum and meant to be a conversation like. Im not randomly posting details of a fight with my s.o. for the hell of it, not that i ever do anyway. My point was I dont like people announcing to the world their private problems for no reason other than thumbs ups or posting new pictures of themselves daily.

That, and considering I havent posted any obscure lyrics anywhere since I was 12, just make me think whatever point you were trying to make is moot.

This a good idea man, I Really dislike Facebook and only have one account with my real name and photo for mainly my family, some real friends and people from high school that I never see anymore and I never use it because I don't want all those people to know too much about my life now. Hell, honestly I probably use BL 100X more then I log on my FB account. I think I may use your idea of making another account for just my real friends where I can just post whatever and not worry about having anything about me online because I too am paranoid about that kind of stuff. Thankfully, I have nothing about me online besides FB and I keep that clean, I was dumb when I was young but I've deleted anything that could look bad to family or future employers since then.

An I appreciate everyone's input on the Facebook issue. Its not so much that I have a problem with the idea of Facebook, but more that it is a breeding ground for attention whores who, like ohshea said, will post every dramatic detail of their personal problems purely for the reason that they will get sympathy, likes/comments and just general attention.

It puts the spotlight on people who really need to learn that the world would keep spinning if they didn't exist.
