I think that's on the back burner for now. I don't care what their drugs policy is; after we get independence the way will be clear for other parties to pursue the things us druggies want.

Whilst I can't see this ever happening I think suggesting that 'everyone' ( millions of people) turning up and spoiling their paper could be ignored, is quite the most bizarre statement I've heard in a while (not that long a while but still) .
Compared to sitting back and just not bothering at all whilst attempting to claim that by doing FA you're making some kind of statement, it an outright winner IMHO, sometimes you have little choice but to work with what you have and whilst our system is way from being perfect it stands up pretty well to many other countries around the world.
I'm a believer in voting but I am surprised that there hast been a concerted campaign to spoil papers

Why do you think it would be so hard for them to ignore a bunch of spoiled papers? Ultimately, it's a secret ballot, and there will be no shortage of people who are prepared to say they spoiled their ballot when in fact they cast a valid vote. The media would help cover it up, with explanations for why the threatened mass ballot-spoiling did not appear (that don't involve "The authorities are lying through their teeth about the numbers of valid and invalid votes, and the announced figures are made up from beginning to end").

If there was ever anything like a national "spoil your paper!" campaign, I'm sure that they would create a new offence of deliberately spoiling one's own vote. It would be unprosecutable in reality, due to the secrecy of the ballot; but that sort of thing doesn't usually stop them. It's also close enough to electoral fraud that it probably wouldn't be a direct breach of international human rights law to strip people convicted of ballot-spoiling of the vote for life, if they ever did find a way to prosecute.
Of course, the other way they could go would be to introduce voting machines that make it actually impossible to cast anything other than a valid vote. If they ever do away with paper and pencils, then that's it for the integrity of the democratic process, though
It's a sort of three-way toss-up for me between an honest vote for the Green party; a tactical vote for the Liberal Democrats (don't want Labour, Tory or UKIP); or spoiling my paper by filling it out as though it were AV.
I know people fought and died to give me the vote, but what use is it really, when the choice is basically between shit, shite or crap?
I'm in the exact same situation, Julie. I'd vote for the Greens but in my constituency it's a close fight between Tories and Lib Dems with the latter just behind after that Cheeky Girl shagging nobber lost his seat to one of the local Tories with the surname Davies (not sure which one - there's a couple in close proximity around these parts). The Lib Dems know this and have been campaigining hard locally... negatively campaigning hard locally. It's all "please vote for us or the Tory will keep his seat". Little or nothing in terms of giving more substantial reasons to be voting for them rather than against the Tories which leaves a bad taste in the mouth I must say. However, they do make a valid point in that it is the only way to oust the local Tory... I just hate the fact our voting system relies so heavily on "tactical" votes to have any hope of ending up with a government not completely decided in advance by "safe seats" and gerrymandering
I totally get what swedger is saying and I agree 100%.
I think the point he's making is that the perspective of someone living in Bradford is different from someone living in Scotland. Or the leafy Welsh countryside.
Was speaking with the neighbour who actually deigns to speak with me a few weeks ago and was gobsmacked at the level of vitriol being aimed at "foreigners". For reference, I'm probably the only "foreigner" in this town aside from the folks who run the Chinese and Indian takeaways and those that run the kebab shop. Ignorance is ignorance. Has nothing to do with where you happen to live.
... We always sang Christian hymm in school n had bible stories n I learnt a lot from them like not being too greedy, being kibd to one another, love they're neighbour etc. and it was lovely to have a sing song each morning.
Now what???? All these people are coming here n showing offence to us Christians. We're not allowed to show our faith as much "encase it offends people" not allowed to wear the Christian symbolism in certain jobs (the cross in British airways). People are bound to be upset n frustrated.
Compare and contrast those two sections of your post, Evey. And perhaps try to consider that what "information" you get from the Daily Heil may possibly be a pile of utterly xenophobic (at best - frankly downright raict) bullshit and everything else you said in your post confirms the fact you don't seem to have any other source of information (like the real world outside of the Heil's "the sky is falling in and there's only bastard Polish builders left to fix it (at the rate I'm prepared to pay them)" fantasy hate emporium.
Same thing Scotland and Ireland do - centuries of oppression and borderline attempted genocide. Until really very recently it was still illegal to speak Welsh in Wales. Funnily enough policies like these don't go down too well with the natives.
I don't read the Daily Mail. I don't believe in reading newspapers when they're full of shite n the focus is around spoiling people's ljves. Ugh!
How do I find out what's going on in my constituency so that I can vote accordingly? If I remember rightly we had a labour seat for many years a Martin Jones.

Not a huge Weller fan either, to be fair, but Long Hot Summer ain't bad, & although it it's pretty cheesey, I used to wander round blasting Shout To The Top alot on my beatbox, as a teenager...
