gbl mixers...

chemelion: that's interesting... so theoretically, if I wanted to synthesize just one dose (roughly 1 ml of GBL) of GBL into NaGHB...
putting 1ml GBL + 200ml of H20 + 1.2 grams of NaOH in a pyrex cup/glass cup and then heating for some time (less than a couple of minutes) THEN checked the PH to be at around 7...would it work and be edible?

ouch, that was a serious brain fart on my part. In my haste to disprove Bonecutters remarks, I made some pretty serious goofball mistakes myself. I edited my post above to reflect what I should have been saying. That'll teach me to post when I'm tired.
BTW, Chemelion, that was actually a very clear and concise summary of the ghb formation process. I've read a number of writeups on the procedures and seen it done a number of times but noone's ever described the process as simply as you just did in so few words. Kudos to you.
 
any juices that are citric help with the taste of gbl. if only i could get my hands on some.... it is litteraly extinct here in Maryland :(

When i do it, i use the following...
250mL GBL
1000mL H2O
130g NaOH
but i only use 300-500Ml of the H2O to start with and then add the rest in at the end (its quicker and easier to heat less water)... to dilute it to a specified concentration.
Therefore, using 1mL of GBL, you'd need 0.52g NaOH and 4mL of H2O... but more H2O can be used.

I can see the chemical reaction, but the sum doesnt work, where does the other hydrogen atom come from?
C4H6O2 + NaOH -> C4H7NaO3. So where does the extra H come from to make it work?

I'm not quite sure what's the point you don't get. But the lactone (on the left side of the equation) grabs a hydrogen from NaOH (C4H6O2 becomes C4H7NaO3) to became the final product.

No, my point was that GHB is H8 rather than H7 so where does the other one come from when it makes ghb?
 
GHB is: C4H8O3
and NaGHB is: C4H7NaO3
so to make NaGHB from NaOH and GBL, it only needs to grab 1 Hydrogen.
