gateway drug

I first smoked weed at like 15, and didn't really love it. Did it maybe once every three months until I was 19 or 20. Then I really discovered weed, and shortly thereafter decided that acid was the first serious drug I really wanted to try. A year and a bit later and I've tried pretty much everything that is normally available.

So I'd probably say acid was the gateway drug for me...

I tried weed first, so technically it was my gateway drug. After about 4 years of smoking I rolled for the first time and after about a month passed I tried about 3 other drugs. So I think it was really E.

To be honest, the Internet has been my gateway. My drug use has been sporadic and inconsistent since I first got intoxicated, but I've become more and more willing to try new drugs since I started coming to sites like Bluelight and Erowid. I just haven't run across them yet.

I completely agree with you, although my gateway grug was definately ecstasy, what really drives me to try new things is the internet. I spent hours and hours researching all about ecstasy before i tried it, and after that first experience i found myself spending most of my free time when not fucked reading about drugs, Bluelight and Erowid are fantastic places, and theres so much information on both sites it seems almost endless.

Reading about other peoples experiences definately encourages me to do drugs but i like to think in a much safer way rather than just on one night out buying some random pills and takin them without preparation on a night out. Although i smoked weed before taking x i have only recently been appreciating green and enjoying it all the time. But ecstasy has really opened my mind, and giving me experiences i didnt know were previously possible and therefore stimulated my interest in other mind altering substances.

Seen.

By gateway drug, they don't mean the first drug you took that made you think 'hey, I want to try others'. In the strict pharmacological sense it means a drug that facilitates the learning of pleasurable responses to other drugs. By that definition, the most common gateway drug is nicotine - you have to learn to enjoy the effects of nicotine and it sensitizes the dopaminergic pathways responsible for pleasure/reward so that you learn to recognize the same thing when caused by other drugs

Before I did any drug, I knew I would be willing to try any of them at least once. So my first drug was simply the one I could get my hands on first, and that was nicotine. Second marijuana. But that was in the seventh grade, didn't get high, really. Aside from that, first REAL drug experience, acid. 18 years old. it was was could be considered a bad trip and I still wanted more.

Alcohol

I remember drinking watered down wine when i was 6 years old or something

and on my 1st birthday party my granny put some booze behind my ears , probably absorbed some of that through the skin.

oh and i also remember this might be before the watered down wine stuff , my mom forcing me to chug some beer , and saying so you will never be a drunk like your father , that's kinda a ytraumatic experience , was like really young 4-5

Probably alcohol...the first time I smoked weed I was drunk, the first time I did meth I was drunk, the first time I smoked a cig I was drunk.

I smoked weed, meth and did shrooms all before I ever smoked a cig.

Erowid was my gateway drug. It literally got me high to read about all of those crazy drugs. I wanted to try them all, and I did. Finally I found opiates and haven't looked back since.

^me too : )
although I did start off with alcohol and cigs first.

Mine's kinda complicated.
The drug itself was definitely pot, as i remember thinking "hmm, i'm not dead. They're probably bullshitting me on the other drugs as well" right after my first toke. However, i would never have tried it if i wasn't drunk at that time. ;)

weed.

Its illegal and harmless. Did they lie to me about everyting else too?

(taken from the book Pot Planet)

I know people who do harder drugs and never would have started if they hadn't had done weed first. It takes the edge off of what illegal drugs are.

marijuana is a gateway drug cause its illegal......if pot was legal and people smoked it they would never TOUCH illegal "hard" drugs......cause pot is already scary as it is!!!! too late american government....

Caffeine. When I was a little kid and drank hugeass 32 oz. and bigger coffees on car rides and would get really strung up and talkative/full of ideas, manic almost.

Course, I hate stimulants now.

I could also add tripping on ketamine as a 4-year old (or else having an OOBE under some other anaesthetic to remove a mole), and getting pissed at having a cough when I was in elementary school, and downing a whole bottle of tussin out of spite because it wasn't working. I then woke up talking almost deliriously, and vomiting into a trash can. A trash can from which little green men were shooting at me from a spiral staircase that went all down the sides of the can (I didn't actually see them, but it was like I knew they were there and felt them).

But you guys don't count those, so I guess it would be weed (I actually smoked weed before I ever touched alcohol, a big LMAO at drug policy that made it easier to get weed than alcohol at that age).
