Hey,
Buy the bloody tickets before they sell out and if Internationals don't come we can all sue and get our money back under some pretence or some shit, you know it was misleading because of the way it was advertised or something.
I promise there are international DJ's playing, I know cos someone rooted someone who knows (I did not do any rooting but my friend rang this someone and asked).
The light and sound show is supposed to be awesome, sure it may be at maroubra but they can just bring all that shit in (lights speakers etc). Look at what they did to that big room at the Big Day Out (I think they have the same person doing the whole sound and light set up).
As for paying $60 to see aussie dj's, why did everyone want Transmission tickets???? "It's all about the Vibe" to quote the dad from The Castle. 3000 people that are up for it is what makes an even, you could have the greatest DJ spinning but if noone is dancing it is going to be fucked, simple.
I dunno, I have already purchased 29 tickets for me and my friends cos we are all looking forward to it. If you go and you don't like it you have only lost $60 but if you miss it and it turns out to be the event of the year, like last year (NYE parties excluded) you will kick yourself.
The choice is yours in the end. I will see you there.

OK OK
I've been convinced
smile.gif
I'll buy tickets and see what happens.
I just don't know how the hell we're all going to get to and from Maroubra. I'm totally against driving the next day. I don't have a car so I have to trust someone else to drive after taking shit loads of drugs. Which I refuse to do. I can't afford a cab and I detest public transport (especially in that kind of state). If necessary, I totally trust myself to drive but who's going to lend me their car? If I can solve this problem I'll be there with bells on (as my mum would say LOL)

Well i've definitely been talked into it (didn't take much).
Miss apple I don't think getting to maroubra should be that difficult. By the sounds of things it will definitely be worth your while.
I think a meet up sounds great. just let me know where & when.

SNIFF!! to you too mona (you can't expect me to let THIS one slide)
smile.gif

a) Not uncommonly, when a night in Aus is advertised as "Gatecrasher" or "Ministry of Sound" or "Renaissance" or whatever, chances are you won't be seeing a Paul Oakenfold or a PVD or a Sasha. More likely than not you'll be seeing Joe No Name who has a sarf london accent and once carried John Digweed's record box, and you'll pay through the nose for the privilege. I KNOW there are exceptions - Dave Seaman being the most obvious - but event organisers in Sydney do tend to pull the proverbial wool over the collective eye fairly regularly.
b) As for the ATMOSPHERE, okay, I admit that of late I appear to have some rather startling claustrophobia issues (more than 50 people within 500m of me and I get a little twitchy) but I think the atmosphere at big events SUCK! Everyone is so on edge and expectant and waiting for the "EVENT" to kick in that, for me at least, there's always a letdown. I ALWAYS have my best nights in small clubs, with a local crowd and boring old res DJs. It's always when you least expect it that the best times happen - I think anyway.
c) - and this is to dented - I don't know WHY people pay that much for Transmission and the like. I really don't. I know I'm fairly alone in thinking this, but it does all seem a little over the top. I'm probably far too cynical and jaded for my tender years, but that's the way I see it. Give me a sweaty, cramped room, with 200 people of whom I know every third, at least by sight and a DJ I've seen a thousand times and I'm as happy as a clam.
mones, James probably has influenced my thinking to some degree. But he's right on this one!
No hard feelings everyone, and I repeat my wish that you all have a great night.

Cheers,
Cat

Hey Cat,
I just want to point out some thing:
Ministry of Sound: Tall Paul and Judge Jules
Renaisance: Dave Seaman and Sister Bliss
Global Umderground: Seb Fontain and BT
Hardly what you would call hack DJ's.

Cat,
Couple of points.
Scott Bond is the understudy resident in the Future Room at Gatecrasher and Matt Hardwick is the one belting out the house tunes in the plasma lounge. When I was there I thought they were the pick of the night anyways. Certainly better than Captain Cheese (jules).
I know they are like only 2 of 10 or so dj's for the night, but they are very good.
As for small and sweaty, well thats abit of a fav of mine also.

hey guys,
firstly, thanks to dented for getting my Gatecrasher tickets for me, much appreciated.
Apples- I will take you and mona if you like. I will have a fairly quiet night on the pills, so I will be able to get us back also(As long as you navigate!). OOHH, and I'll have my new contacts in so I'll actually be able to see.
And as to the argument- horses for courses really. It's our differences that make us such an interesting bunch. Let's not debate the validity of our personal choices, eh.
And are we going to try to meet-up before hand, or at the venue?

Well my house is kinda on the way.
From what my mates tell me, its max $20 from from my place to Maroubra in a cab.
thats 5 bucks each.
so that could be an option, or a nearby pub, that everyone could meetup at, and then just moisy on down there.
cheers,
brookster

WHAAAAATT??? You guys get Sonic Animation!!
DAMN! That sux. They never play Sydney. oh hangon..they are..April 8th...hmmm

baked)

Right that settles it. When I come back from overseas I'm moving to Melbourne. You guys have Sonic Animation playing at your Gatecrasher event and we don't. I'm sorry, but that fucking sucks.

pinger...thanks for the offer

I just might be taking you up on that. I just hope the tickets haven't sold out by Saturday. After the transmission debacle I really wouldn't be surprised.
And I'm not getting into the DJ debate

Well firstly pc if ya like the smaller nights with no hype you'd probably like mad racket which is tomm.....err tonight (which after much arm twisting and using advanced scientifically researched persuasive techniques, i have finally managed to convince apples to come to...)...
but I know what ya mean, my 2 fave nights are the smallest and sweatiest clubs (tweekin and plastic)....but i am also kinda weird in that I like the big hyped nights as well, part of the reason i got so messy at renaissance is i built it up so much in the weeks leading up to it so by the time the night arrived i was pretty primed for a big one....i'll probably do the same for gatecrasher altho i have vowed to myself I will never ever get so messed up as i did at renaissance
smile.gif
...
Speakafreaka, oakenfold wasn't at homes first birthday twas jeremy healey which i found to be a pretty awesome night just because of the fact it was my first ever time on speed and i couldn't stop moving :P....
Well thanks to mr "well prepared" brook I have my gc ticket already, although i have no idea where maroubra beach is being the lost queenslander I am
smile.gif
...i'm for a pre-meet as meeting inside an unknown venue after people have already consumed their party additives is always a recipe for failure
smile.gif

Ok peeps,
It looks like we have a pretty good interest in the GC thing.
I was asking around on the weekend, in regards to the "international" line up for Sydney GC, and rumour has it, that they are just waiting for some more internationals to sign up on the dotted line for the night.
So hopefully those "rumours" will hold true.
Anywayz, talking about the original topic, is anyone actually interetsed in meeting up before hand?
I know of some good pubs that are near Anzac Pde, so i was thinking we could meetup there and cab it down (or drive as the case may be).
Any other ideas?
Brook

I'm keen for a Bluelighter meetup at Gatecrasher. Scored myself a freebie doorpass!
Any bluelighters go to Platipus on Friday evening?

You know you want to.
smile.gif

There is this little voice in the back of your head which is saying in a light whisper "go and party.....go and party....."
yeah, yeah

The thing which has persueded me to ge to GC is that it is being put on by a Melbourne production company (can't remember which one but it's on the flyer) which were one of the companies responsible for the party i went to on NY in Melbourne and it absolutley rocked!!!! I have never been to the venue at Maroubra but i am willing to give it a try and i am glad that it is not at home!

sup skanks..
matt hardwick and scott bond are two kick ass dj's. i'm sold, i will be at gatecrasher i'm 99% sure :-]
still, how will they play in melbourne AND sydney the same night? and as usual melbourne gets the better line up but that is normal because melbourne has a MUCH bigger and better scene that sydney when it comes to events like this :-]
melbourne, i'll be skankin your ass in a year! ;-] mona and apples, you two are f'n comin down with me.
:-]
