gang rapes

If anyone knows what goes on inside the walls of a prison, they'd know that there's a very slim chance of this serial gang rapist seeing out his 55-year sentence. He'll be lucky to see out 5 years.
Rapists, pedophiles (sp?), and wife-beaters are high on the list of bashings, stabbings, rapes, etc, in jail.
The media has hasn't released the name of the bloke that's done this, coz they're (the lawyers of the rapist) trying to prevent this rapist from getting fucked up when he gets into jail. I don't know why they bother - the prison wardens know what people have done to get their ass hauled off to jail, and when they know who it is that's raped these girls, they leak it into the prison community, then it all sorts itself out in there.
Prisoners have their own code of morals, justice & punishment - this rapist has basically sealed his own coffin by doing what he did.

They media said they are Lebanese because they are. People who now say that all Lebanese are rapist pigs are the ones with the tainted view and fucked up belief system. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who think this way but there isn't much we can do about it. We can't shield everyone from knowledge for fear of what conclusions they might draw. I have a friend who is so blinded by the idea of political correctness he thinks it is wrong to say something like "I had beer with that black guy over there", when there's only one black guy in the room!
The last few reports I've seen on the ABC didn't even mention their ethnicity at all (though by now everyone would know).
Rape: I'm with the majority of people (everyone?) here. I've seen the effect of rape and years of child abuse on a couple of my closest friends. They have not come out about it to police and it affects their lives today. Seeing how they are now and knowing I can't change their past makes me feel so helpless.
Their's is a life sentence, so should rapists' be.

I'm not touching the racisim issues...
Personally, I believe that rapists should be put in solitary confinement. No parole, no visitors, no mail, no punctuations (other than meal deliveries) for the rest of their natural lives. Reason? To make their lives a drawn out misery, as they deserve.

commenting on this "racial" problem, mentioning offenders' race in any crime is always implied as bringing racial issues/implications into a situation that can justly do without any complications.
the fact of the matter is, as an "objective" review of a situation and its facts, a news report is not doing anything wrong by labelling these offenders as "lebanese". that is just the fact, just as i am chinese, and majority are caucasian... it is a fact, an attribute of the situation being reported.
what is wrong with reporting facts as accurately as possible, otherwise they wouldnt be "facts".
it is us who bring the racial connotations/implications and colour the report as we read it, with our own racial insecurities and the need to declare ourselves as politically correct, non-racist.
if we were all objective and accepted the report as simply a presentation of facts, then, "lebanese offenders" is simply an accurate depiction.
granted some of u will argue that the media and its presentation plays a lot and influences our own, uneducated opinions (as plaz so fiercely pointed out ;) ), but that is just my differring point of view.
i find that most stated opinions in this thread are too fast in mentioning the racial issue or defend ethnicity, when really, it is us who brought our own connotations into a factual report.

ethnic background is not a part of it...
if anyone raped my sisters/mother/girlfriend etc, i know that i would be the one facing a prison term because of what i would do to them in retaliation.
i think mr x is a lucky guy, as he would not survive outside prison.
 
I dont know if anyone has heard the latest on this case, but the leader of the group has been moved out of Long Bay to Melbourne Gaol earlier today. The police are not giving a clear reason for the move but deny that the prisoner was bashed.
I think he was bashed and Im glad this guy is in gaol. One point that no one has brought up to this point is just how many other girls did these guys rape, but are too afraid to come forward. we probaly all know someone who was raped or sexually abused. I know several, but the stigmata of being raped, and the fear of retelling and thus reliving the incident is enought to scare these girls into wrecks.
I dont think that the words "Lebanese" needed to be used. If the offenders were Lebanese citizens then the word would have been of some significance. I have German heritage, yet I doubt anyone would describe me as a German youth. The fact of the matter is that you would not hear the term used in conjunction to immigrants from Europe, even if they were first generation.
The punishment they have given these guys, is far worth than death, and far worse than most of us here could contrive. A maximum security prison is full of jolly gentleman who know all different ways to hurt someone, and now society has given them something to play with.
I say good riddance, these guys should be kept from death and made to suffer everyday.

I feel extremely angry, upset and annoyed with what was clearly race motivated rapes.
These youths used racial slurs and taunts against these women and enjoyed making 'white' women suffer.
These women were specifically targeted because of their race and colour. They were lured or forcibly taken by a group of youths, raped and then one would pretend to save the girl and then proceed to rescue her. He would then drive her to a new location where more youths were waiting and then rape them again. This continued up to 3 times.
When you compare his actions though to someone like Martin Bryant who received a life sentence for the murder of 35 people, but only 21 years for the following charges:
20 counts of attempted murder,
3 counts of grievous bodily harm
8 counts of infliction of wounds
Does it really add up... I’m sure the good Samaritans who stick up for these 'poor, under privileged ethnic minority' who knew nothing better will use these cases to base an unfair ruling.
I even heard some crap that the sentence should be reduced because in Lebanese culture it's alright to treat women like that!
I really do believe these scums do deserve life but I think our legal system is a bit questionable.
How can one man who attempted to take so many lives given only 21 years. While a man who organised the violent rape of XX women be given 55 years. In my mind these two crimes are of equal evilness and I believe they both should have been given 55 years – even more!
Does anyone know how the judge came by his ruling? I’m not really familiar with the law but I’m curious to see how judgements can be so different.

It would be GREAT for those of us who dont get time to always watch the news or read the paper of someon could please fill me in on what actually happensed? This thread starts off talking about what we should do to him - but doesnt tell us what happened?

hey the fucked thing is that, puting him in jail is going to cost about 35,000 a year which we the tax payers have to fork out so lets do the maths on this one
50 * 35,000 = 1,750,00 so we are paying that much to let this fucker die in a cell, sometimes u going to question why the death penalty was abolished. Basically everything is underfunded in australia, medical research, schools, health care, etc. and we spend such large amounts of cash of locking up fuck wits who dont deserve to live!!!

For people who don't know what happened here is a quick synopsis:
A group of youths (Lebanese) organised the various rapes and indecent assaults on young women through the Sydney area.
They would lure young unsuspecting women usually from train stations to follow them with the promise of something. Some women were asked if they would like to smoke a joint with them, while others were attacked while alone in parks.
These men would take each woman to deserted areas and then rape them. One case, which stands in my mind as something no human should have to endure, was taken to an area - raped by a group of men. During the rape, one individual would act like the 'savior' and stop the others raping the girl and tell the girl to follow him that he would take her to safety. In fact, he was the one designated to take this young woman to another area where more men would be waiting to rape her. Again the woman was raped by a group of men. During the rape another individual would stop everyone and again pretend to help her. This individual -(I hope you rot in hell you fuckin scum bag) - would take the woman to another area where yet another group of men waitied.
In another act - a group of 7 men forced a woman to perform felatio on all of them.
I believe 3 women stepped forward yet there seems to be many more who are to ashamed or scared to step forward.
When the women reported these men, they threatened to again rape her and used their mobile phone to send sms messages to the victims (Ed note: Real fuckin smart... Would put some racial slur about what could you expect from a bunch of lebbos.. but I wont)
These messages were used by the police to track these people down.
The ring leader was given 55 years with a min. of 40 years.
Their families believe that they are innocent and in fact some family members believe it was the woman who instigated it and that they should be to blame.
So I assume in the familys mind the scenario went alot like this:
Woman approach group of youths minding their own business. Young woman says: 'Hey guys, how about we go around the back to those abandoned warehouses and you each take a turn at fuckin me.'
Guys: No no! That would be wrong
Woman: Nah, i'm a dirty slut and love to be treated like an animal.
Guys: Oh ok, if you insist.
... Time passes...
Woman decides she doesn't like it:
Guy says: Ok we'll stop. Let me take you to a hospital.. you look awfully banged up.
Woman: Ok.
1/2 way there.. woman changes her mind.
Woman: Hey, you know what. Those bruises you have given me sort of match my make up. And the blood.. well i'm really after that grundy look.
Do you know another 10 or so guys who'd like to have a ride of me. Hey, i'm all wet and willing now.. might aswell make the best use of it.
Guy: Hmm, I guess if you really want it.
*guy makes a few more phone calls*.. remember woman, i'm doing YOU the favour here.
Woman: Thanks! I appreciate it.. Nothing makes me feel more like a woman that a good ol gang bang!

Yes they are Australian Citizens, but they segregate themselves from the Australian community by forming sub-communites such as the Lebanese community, not to mention many others.
I have absolutely no promblems with people migrating to this country, if anything I encourage it.... to a degree, but if you come here, you come here to be part of a greater Australian community, that doesn't hate each other and feel the need to run from one embassy to the next burning each others flags.

No, may be we don't get worked up so much when a bunch of whites rape an asian/black but the rest of the world does! The rest of the world will label 'Australia' as a bunch of gang raping deviants! Whatever race these people were - they have given Australia a bad name.
Racial slurs were used when these women were attacked. The women themselves claimed that they were racially taunted.
I'm an ethnic myself and feel disgraced that someone could do this. I have no problem saying this is a race related issue because it was.
These victims were targetted because of their race and look.
However, justice has been served and I know that these people will get their just deserts in jail. Criminals don't care whether ya white, black, green or blue.. they will seek their own form of justice.

Im not for the death penalty and im not saying the guy who got 55 years is innocent.
But death is final. Im not one for the death penalty. but the crime i thik should be worse than wot this guy did (if there is such a thing) to constitute it.
i think the inmates whill give the guy a hard enoug time for the next 40 years or so.
