^Pictures are awesome.
Regarding your question.....
NSFW:
In the books the assassin is a member of the Sorrowful Men. I think it was a merchant. No demon child. The Sorrowful Men whisper in your ear before they kill you that, "They're so sorry."
In the book the manticore/green bug was smacked out of Daenarys' hands and stamped out by somebody called Arstan. He accompanied a huge eunuch named Strong Belwas. They were sent by Illyrio(the guy who originally set up Dany's marriage) to watch over her.
It's revealed much later on in the books that Arstan is actually Barristan Selmy in disguise. In the books he wanted to get a good feel for who Daenarys was before he swore himself to her.
In the show, they apparently cut all that out, including Belwas, so it's not really spoiling anything cause they already revealed who Arstan was. There will just be more to it in the books.

Hope that answers what was unclear.

ah yes that makes sense. yeah, i mean..it would be hard to try and do that because well we know who he is so it's sort of like..what's the point. and thanks for refreshing my memory :)

yeah it was a lot of fun! it was really small. i pretty much posted everything that was there except for the blackwater bay archery thing and the throne space. but it was all free, including the pic on the throne and a print out. everyone there was also very nice, i got there early on easter sunday so i think that helped. not too crowded and everyone there was a legit fan so they were respectful of like not getting in the way of pics and like swapping spots with you so you could see what they were blocking, etc.
overall a good experience.
i hope they keep it up every season.

The more I think about it, I think you're right. Disguising him and all that would have been too difficult and in the end kind of pointless. Revealing him immediately might open up some other possibilities that weren't available in the books, too.
I fought with myself over whether to drive down or not. I'm glad you had a good time and that I can live vicariously through you and your pictures. :D.

Goddam how i've missed this series.. gives me chills just watching it again, can't wait for the next episode!

Roose Bolton and his sigil.

our blades are sharp.

i don't know how i feel about things. i miss strong belwas. no greyjoys, jamie&brienne, or bran & ohsa. so. Margarey. you go girl. get all Queenly. i'm sure she knows exactly what she's doing. of course she does.

tyrion and tywin had a great scene together. i don't know besides that.

eta: 95toland - a scorpion, not a manticore. manticores are fucking horrifying creatures, not bugs.

You're absolutely right regarding the mythical creature.

Both pages say that, in the SOIAF world, Manticores are poisonous, stinging bugs.
I always thought the assassination "device" in the books and the show last night was a miniaturized, decorative version of the actual creature. When Daenarys received it in the books, she remarked to herself something along the lines of, this is so beautiful, it will fetch a hefty price that I can use for ships/army.

I guess I'm not sure of the actual form of it. Mechanical disguised as a piece of jewelry or actual bug. I just remember that in the books it was referred to as a Manticore.

NSFW:
The whole big tracking shot of Snow going to see Mance was awesome. Its weird how this is probably the coolest bit where its the part of the show im most interested in. That and Bran and Rickon. And Selmy coming back was awesome.

I went to see it at a friend's house, and it was awesome. Incidentally, the friend whose house I went to was the one who loaned me book 1. She was like "I don't like romance and dragon books, but this is awesome and I'm done with it, so you can have it." It sat on my shelf for a while and I didn't read it until Hurricane Wilma when I lost my power. I read it by candle light at night. LOL

I'm so glad I did.

I was so into the show and then it ended after the unsully and I just say "aww FUCK! keep going!" lol

Overall, I was satisfied w/ the episode.

NSFW:
But, like many others, I was disappointed there was (as yet) no Strong Belwas. Granted, in the book Selmy (disguised) saves Dany w/ no assistance from Belwas (from what I remember). Given that, I hope he was merely off camera and will be in the next 'sode. I suppose anyone having read the cast list will know.

Not having Selmy pose as Aristan initially bothered me, but as someone previously mentioned: where it worked as a clever device in a twist for the book, viewers would be hard pressed to miss the likeness - assuming we're all not as thick as Dany (I kid).

The manticore was another disappointment. It was one of the handful of things in the books which I found scary.

For all I took issue w/ involving Selmy, I was stoked for him to show up, as he is a legendary ass character.

The giants looked great for sure.

I guess one last complaint I've not seen mentioned is Jon Snow's story for Mance changing. Even in the book it made me think less of Mance b/c he didn't see through such a transparent farce. Now the story is even weaker: claiming he was bothered by the Watch's associations w/ Craster - the wildling! Before at least he expressed his troubles involving station in life starting w/ his bastardry, leading all the way to his deposit in the Watch. I thought it was unnecessary and detracting (for not only Mance, but Jon as well) to change that detail.

Forgot to mention: I was pretty satisfied w/ the dialogue between the Astapor slaver and Daenerys. This part had me loling in the book, yet my sister (having not read the books), did not find it as funny - until I explained to her Daenerys is fluent in Valaryian, which was not made clear in the show.
NSFW:
Am totally excited to see that particular slaver's untimely demise.

It would be an understatement to say I am stoked for anything and everything Beric Dondarion related.

The last little gripe you mentioned is my largest of the episode.

Sometimes this show deviates from the books in areas where it really, really shouldn't, and where it is entirely unnecessary (no budget constraints, no time constraints, TV vs. novel medium changes need not apply, etc..). I don't get it.

Still a great show, but they piss me off on a weekly basis with some of this stuff.

This is the funniest thing ever, and I don't say that lightly. Major spoilers.
